Hello Fellow FND Warriors!
Considering the overwhelming imbalance of negativity in the lives of FND sufferers, I decided to post a few of my attempts to offset so much negativity in my life.
- Created a new Manta that grants me grace no matter whether I am having a good day or a challenging day: I am Doing My Best, and My Best is Good Enough.
- Developed Four Doable Daily Goals: • Be Thankful and Grateful • Learn Something New • Be Helpful or a Positive to Others • Be Good to Myself •. Purposefully, I made these goals vague so that they can fit into the best of days and the worst of days.
- Divided Tasks into Subtasks. Chunking so that natural Stop & Rest Breaks are factored in. For me, it cuts down on my inclination of me considering myself a “failure” because I didn’t complete an entire project.
- As best that I can, I have Remained in Society rather than to Isolate Myself. I attempt to remain in contact with folks who are positives in my life. Conversely, I have tried to distance myself from any toxic people or situations. A phone call or a text to ask how they are doing, focusing on them; not my woes. On occasion I invite one or two people to my house for a visit. These are folks who understand I might need to cancel last minute, and are accepting of that. These little gatherings are kept low key and easy. No big preparations. A couple times, the invitee has brought food for me instead of me fixing a lunch for them! I found activities and events that my husband and I can attend. I keep them to 3 hrs or less. I am far better during the day than at night so I stick to daytime plans: brunch, matinee performances, lunch at a diner or bistro.
- Engage in doing something that can incorporate elements of Physical, Occupational, and Cognitive therapies. My two go-to activities are Cooking & Gardening. My good days may involve preparing and cooking a new recipe or digging in the gardens. A middle of the road day might be serving as sous chef for a meal my husband cooks. A difficult day may be thinking about, or creating a menu for dinners for the next few days using ingredients on hand. If possible, looking over a few things I could organize (pulling out pens from a junk drawer to test which one still write; throwing out the bad ones). On days or even weeks that spend the vast majority in bed, I listen to audiobooks for hours. I listen to a huge variety of books: classics, espionage, books from other cultures, biographies and memoirs, simple cozy mysteries, ancient and modern wars, famous authors, etc. I want to learn and grow.
Please note that the above are some things that are working for me. Of course, everyone is different. No two FND cases are alike. The goal of my post is be helpful and beneficial to others.
