Does anybody know please if an EMG or NCS will show F waves or show anything with tremors in the legs If you have FND ? It’s just that i had an EMG and NCS and the neuro physiologist said that everything was normal in my legs, but then stated in a report that i have gross tremor in legs and trunk and body ? he Said it was not neurological in origin, so does he think i’m making it up ? HELP please ! am so confused!!

If you know your NOT making it up then please don’t allow someone to make you think you are YOU KNOW YOUR BODY

Agree. Functional neurological disorder (FND) is associated with considerable distress and disability. The symptoms are not faked - medical post.

Hi, I have FND. Started in 2018 but diagnosed in 2019 , 18 months later. Earlier this year my hands started to cramp up they thought it was carpal tunnel had a emg /ncs but turned out to be cubital tunnel syndrome (nerve caught in elbow) then I started to get a tremor in my right hand was referred to neurology they gave me another emg and then saw the neurologist they did a few tests (distraction) and confirmed it was not Parkinson’s but I have a Functional Tremor probably due to the FND. I suggest you get a referral to see a neurologist (physiologist do the testing as far as I am aware) and they can confirm your type of tremor and put your doubts to rest. Good luck. Kevin

Hi, its just your brain not communicating properly with your legs, as simple as that sounds. My son had leg and thigh spasms and also numbness. The numbness was because the brain blocked the pain signals, as he was also diagnosed with chronic regional pain, this I think was down to his low pain threshold (not previously noticed) and collapsing from Osgood Schlatters Disease, he used to suffer intense knee pain that one occasion he mentioned it feels like its broken (knowing in reality it wasn't).So with the leg spasms its a similar thing just the neuro messages are being sent another way.

I know with EEG's nothing will register unless the spasms are happening at that precise time. Will need to look up what the other abbreviations stand for.

Do your legs tremor at the same time as your trunk?

I think what he means by "its not neurological in origin" is that its not a physical injury (linked to damage or disease of the brain) probably has psychological underlying factor, which is a positive. However, he should have explained in better and reassured you, not stressed you out more.

Let me find you some more information.

Hugs xx

I had an EMG study done and it did pick up the tremor in my right leg, but my results were all “normal”, everything working the way it’s supposed to. Isn’t FND grand???

This probably explains it better (taken from NHS Inform):The symptoms of FND happen because there’s a problem with how the brain is sending and receiving messages to itself and other parts of the body.

Some of the reasons why the brain stops working properly in FND include:

The brain trying to get rid of a painful sensationa migraine or other neurological symptom, the brain shutting down a part or all of the body in response to a situation it thinks is threatening.

My follow on:

This bit goes onto the "flight or fight" response. Something could be the trigger (its important to say there isn't always a trigger), but if you can identify this its half the battle because then you can then be in control, know what what to do in advance Eg if you are feeling dizzy, you would sit down for a while and rest, knowing that next time you got up you should be fine.

The problem with FND, well at least in my sons case, its in the sub consciousness and thats what you probably need to tap into.

A lot of info I know but hopefully helps.

Most importantly be kind to yourself, its not your fault and there is a way through.
