I received medical treatment. After taking lots and lots of meds, I experienced stomach and bowel issues.
A specialist performed a procedure to get my voice back. It was unsuccessful. After the procedure, I lost my sense of taste.
I experience tremors in my hands. Loss of muscle co-ordination- I will drop stuff that I am holding and can pick it up again. Specialist thinks I might be having mini seizures. Will be having an EEG performed next week.
one of the major concern is acid reflux that might be impeding the recovery of my voice. I do not experience the effects of someone suffering from acid reflux.
Is acid reflux considered part of FND?

Please ensure a speech pathologist is involved in your care. Oesophageal dysfunction is very common in fnd, reflux can irritate the voice box so it is important this is managed well (can be addressed by gastroenterology review). It would also be important to review other voice irritant factors so whether you have post nasal drip or unmanaged sinusitis, asthma or allergies so review with ENT and respiratory physician also useful too. Do you throat clear or cough regularly? A respiratory physiotherapist can give you better techniques cause less harm to voice box. A speech pathologist can teach you how to reduce irritation in your voice box and resonant voice therapy so you can have better technique too....good luck
Silent reflux, also known as laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), is a condition in which stomach acid flows back up the esophagus (swallowing tube) into the larynx (voice box) and throat. LPR is called silent reflux because it often does not cause any symptoms in the chest.
I very much doubt it's FND. Stomach acid in your voice box would very much explain your voice troubles. And could be contributing to your bowel issues.
From my experience, the gut plays a huge role in much of the health of the body and brain so I make sure to watch what I eat especially as I am older now. I am 56. I am a long distance swimmer, but exercise is only a part of good health. What I eat and don't is huge part of keeping me healthy with FND because it controls INFLAMMATION in the body. The system and body become more sensitive so FND and seizures in general can be affected by the biology of my gut so wise of you to really pay attention to that I think because it has really helped me a lot. Most of the doctors during my lifetime never talked about gut chemistry much, just make sure you eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and less fast food, but there is much more to it than that.
Hi, I was diagnosed with FND in 2018(walking,talking and thinking) and GORD (reflux) in 2019 they were thought unrelated. I lost my voice in 2017 and had urgent review for cancer, they found my oesophagus was not working properly. I have problems swallowing, it was also found that I had emphysema. My voice came back after a week and after my GORD diagnosis it was found that acid had caused me to lose my voice and went on to destroy my upper teeth ended up with only 6 left I am now on medication that controls the acid. So in my case it is not fnd related and the reflux is treated as a separate issue. Good luck in the future. Kevin
