Focusing on things I can control like my attitude and actions versus focusing on what I can’t control. It’s amazing for me what exercise, laughter, and good music can do for one’s mood. Sometimes I even just go for a cuddle with my kids, dog, or boyfriend. A little love can go a long way!
I think the biggest thing to wrap your head around, be you awaiting diagnosis, newly diagnosed or like me a veteran - is to `Accept' you have greater limitations than average people and work around them. The human body is blessed with the ability to adapt, that does not mean cure, but it does mean you can make the most of what abilities you have. My tip; the brain uses more energy than you would expect, so fatigue hits the mind quicker than the physical body, be kind to yourself and pace your day in a way to preserve that precious energy for things you want or need to do.
My neighbour was the sole carer for his long term disabled wife and he had more than his fair share of jobs to do daily and he advised me "If you have a job you do not want to do, do it first on the list. That way the relief and joy of completing that awful task will lighten your day". Now I realize FND is a very unforgiving condition, doing what you planned is not possible most of the time, but splitting up the tasks into mental or physical or a little of both each day- so you can toggle between them as your body allows- has really helped me manage better. It spreads the remaining natural resources more evenly, allowing rest times to be more restorative. Give it a whirl!
