"18% of the patients on Avadart on active surveillance the cancer "disappeared".
No other drug but Avadart / finasteride can make that claim -- certainly not ADT ... which mutates the cancer to crpc.
Avadart has no significant side effects.

Is this for active surveillance before any treatments like prostatectomy or radiation? I looked Avodart up and it shrinks the prostate, but I dont have one anymore. PSA at <0.02 for about a year now after SRT.
Seems interesting. Is there a clinical trial to back this?
Avodart is dutasteride and Propecia is finasteride, just to clarify.
I am on the fence about using it while on a modified BAT regimen. The PC suppressing effects of very high testosterone may actually work via DHT (or might not) so it could potentially work against BAT effectiveness. There was one animal study of PC exografts in athymic mice where the tumors regressed from high testosterone, but this effect was cancelled when finasteride was added: The growth inhibition was cancelled and tumors regrew within one week. This was seen with LNCaP 104 R2 cell tumors. Inhibition occurred with 5a-DHT as well as with testosterone propionate.
So 5aRI drugs might block the cancer inhibition of high T levels (and DHT) while on BAT regimens. Paul /MB
DHT fuels PCa to attract the growth of blood vessels necessary to grow. Avadart works as an anti angiogenesis in prostate cancer cells.
Alright George, settle the argument. I say Avadart but my wife says Avodart. She says Tomatoes and I say Domatoes.
Nevermind, I think we'll call the whole thing off......
Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.
