My partner went for an ultrasound scan after suffering with back and groin pain . He also had blood in his urine. The ultrasound on Saturday showed his prostrate was over double size it should be.
I will be going with him for his consultation tomorrow, he is 54 years old . What should we expect and what sort of questions should we ask ?
Thank you .

Hi. I had exactly the same a few years ago. Prostate the size of a golf ball where it should be like a walnut. I opted to have a biopsy (not pleasant but not painful) which found no trace of a tumour. So now I do a blood test every 3 months to keep track of the PSA level. And that's it! No problems at all.
Make sure you ask your consultant anything that worries you - no question is too obvious or too silly. And be completely honest with him/her
Expect to have a Psa blood test ordered and a digital rectal examination (finger up the bum to feel the prostate)
If the blood draw is done in the office, it should be done before the rectal exam because the rectal exam increases the amount of PSA in the blood for a day or two.
This might be an infected prostate plus the common enlarged prostate.
Most men have continued prostate growth throughout life. There are several effective treatments for prostate gland enlargement, including medications diuretic and anti-inflammatory pill, minimally invasive therapies and surgery.
To choose the best option, you and your doctor will consider your symptoms, the size of your prostate, other health conditions you might have and your preferences.
