Hi, just wandered if anyone's had a phenytoin iv infusion to help with the pain of FM and what the result was? My consultant recommends it.
It seems to be a fairly new treatment for the treatment of acute neurogenic pain such as a fibro flare.
Phenytoin is an anti-convulsant like clonazepam, which is also used for fibro pain, so it will be interesting to see how you get on.
When are you having the treatment? I do hope you will tell us all about it afterwards and let us know if it helps you.
Very best of luck - I hope it's a great success for you!

Thanks Moffy. The treatment's booked for May 15th and I'm pinning my hopes on it working - any reduction in my pain levels will be more than welcome!!! I'll let you all know how I get on. I stumbled on this site by accident and I'm so glad I did, I don't feel quite so alone now. Thanks again.

Ohhh I take very low dose clonezapam for my fibro and its wonderful .. I get a great nights sleep and after 18 months I haven't had to up the dose it works as well as the first week I started taking it... If this works like clonezapam will be very interesting to see how you get on

Oh, sleep - what's that? No, seriously, thanks for your reply. Perhaps if the phenytoin's not effective I should ask for the clonezapam? I'm taking Cymbalta, plaquenil (for Lupus) and tramadol for pain but I can't remember the last time I slept for longer than 2 hours. I'm going in for the procedure on May 15th and will let you know the results.

I haven't had this personally, but have an American friend who has both Fibro and Lupus. She began these infusions last October, and says they have made a huge difference to her.
Hope they work equally as well for you Micha. Good luck
