Hi all. Apologies in advance if i ramble, i haven't been on a forum before!
Ive suffered with lots of different symptoms for most of my adult life, have been backwards & forwards to my GP with no outcome or assistance. This changed this year. I contracted Covid and ended up off work from Feb to July this year. Covid exasperated the symptoms & left me feeling just awful. I had a new GP who has listened & eventually diagnosed me with Fibromyalgia & IBS.
I was put on Amitriptyline, 10mg then 20mg over a 12/13 weeks period. It didn’t help. Ive since been put on 6 weeks of 60mg Duloxatine. This hasnt helped either. I have now run out of meds, my GP has left the practice and i have been left to go 'cold turkey' without any medication - is this what you would expect?

in a perfect world, the nhs is not in a perfect world at moment. with all the covid and strikes ect.ect.ect. we see on the news.
book an appointment asap even a telephone appointment may be better than nothing to another gp, also speak to surgery regarding the lack of medication, be aware there may be a delay, while catch up.
you can write to give update on your health situation then the gp will be more able to discuss on phone if your having a bad day.
I would agree with @fmlife's comment in the whole. An appointment with another GP should be helpful. If the meds you've tried haven't helped then there may be alternatives. Normally I would think you would gradually taper off a med, then try a new one..
Never go cold turkey on any anti depressant type medication, symptoms can be much worse than when u started them. I’ve been on Pregabalin for 2 years, but just taled off them as my cognitive function was dreadful. Really worked for pain, but brain fog and memory issues were unbearable. Nortriptylene good for sleep at night. Hope this helps.
I have a phone appointment next week which has been brought forward from 18th, but only because i complained!! My pain is worse, the brain fog and inablilty to say the right words is much worse and I generally feel rubbish. I don't have meds now, so will have to ride it out until next week. I feel like such a failure to my daughter. I just can't bear the thought of having to go through everything again with another GP, I'm so exhausted with it all
If you can ask for a referral to a fibro clinic, there are various ones dotted around the country (that's of course if you are UK based) I was seen by the Guys and St Thomas's team. I was seen by various specialists over an afternoon and a comprehensive plan of action was forwarded to my GP. May be worth a consideration for you.
I had a long fight to get a referral. I had to put the request in writing and follow it up with a telephone consult but it was worth it. I saw physio, psychotherapist and rheumatologist, it was so refreshing to have someone believe what I was saying and have a plan of action. If you do get a referral, please keep a diary of symptoms and the difficulties you face that way you won't forget to mention anything. If you are anything like me your brain goes blank the minute you walk through the consultant's door.
I too am on amytriptalin 5 x 10mg per day. I take them along with Tramadol. Up to 8x50mg some days. The only time I have minimal pain is normally when I am too zonked out to feel it. I have recently started into pain management through NHS and they say they will do a review on my meds and contact my Dr if they come up with another mix to help with the pain. Unfortunately none of the above meds are helping.
Maybe you could register for a pain management clinic suggested by your Dr.
Hello, they should never just leave you without medication or some kind of tapering off, I am on duloxtene , I would differently tell the receptionest you have been left this way and see a doctor /practioner nurse Monday, I found Covid whacked me after catching it in July for the 1st time and with conditions on top a lot for you too cope with, differently be firm about being seen , shame you got a good doc that diagnosed you then left , if you have any problems about being seen you can complain or air your views about how you were left with the practice manager , I think every surgery has one of these. Take care xx
