I did for a couple of months and found it helpful. I managed to stop taking it once my sleep had improved.
I tried it some years back didn't do me any harm but unfortunately didn't change my sleep pattern at all. Good luck with it hopefully it will work for you.x
Hi Kelly, I also take Melatonin as a supplement which has 2 of the B Vitamins in also. It's primarily meant to help with mood and sleep but also with pain. I take it at night with my usual night time meds and it's helping me to have better quality blocks of sleep, I never sleep through the night. I don't think we're allowed to mention brand names on here but research online and I hope you find one that helps you. All the best.
as far as I am aware it is only available on prescription in the UK so anything over the counter is illegal. I know some people were purchasing it from the states at one point. Quite a few conditions where it is not safe to take it with as well.
You're always so quick to jump on people on here. I can assure you the product I buy is certainly NOT illegal. I wouldn't subject my body to anything that isn't deemed good for me. My GP approved the product . Are you a doctor? I suggest you research before pouncing on people from your highchair. I am leaving this Group - because of you!
I am sorry you feel I jumped on you as that was not my intention. I am merely relaying information that is in the public domain. Perhaps I should not have said illegal but potentially incorrect. I am always open to being corrected and learning more and if you can supply the name of your supplement then I could look into that.

I took melatonin for a number of years and found it very helpful in getting me good sleep. My ms neurologist prescribed it so I think it must be pretty safe. I will be back on it once my ms treatment related health issues are dealt with. It definitely worked for me so I wish you luck for it to give you good nights of sleep too🤞🏻

Kelly, please be assured that my comment was about my own situation. I am not a person who would offload illegal products or unsuitable information onto anyone least of all a fellow sufferer. We’re all here to help each other and give advice as much as we can. I’ve tried different tablets and nothing seems to agree with me so I am now medication free for the first time in 8 years so I’m going down the herbal group.
I take it and have for a long time. Now days it does nothing to actually help get me to sleep but if I don't take it I can't sleep. I'm starting to wean down. I'm im Australia but buy mine from iherb. If I'm allowed to mention it ( I'm unsure) I buy NOW foods products for most of mine and the dogs supplements.
Yep, melatonin is not available over the counter in the UK, only when prescribed as medicine inside the UK and that only for certain cases (above 55yo). I can't find any understandable reasons/studies for it not being that available, as long as the dose isn't too high and you watch for the side effects. It is not technically illegal and has always been available here in Eu, like in the US & Canada. I don't find studies on it particularly convincing, praps more L-Tryptophan and 5-HTP, which convert to melatonin. I tried both several times for several months and neither did anything for me. Like all meds, herbs and supps. My sleep has improved a bit from sorting out and reducing what wakes me ("30 wakers"-post), acupressure and now ozone-autohemotherapy. Far from sound (4h without a break is a treat), but somehow I always get the 9h+ I need, if due to sleeping 30-100 mins in the daytime, as soon and as long as the fluey-feverishness tells me to.

Well, I can get "41" melatonin-products otc here in Germany from German "Apotheken", up to 5mg, which I'd've thought is getting a bit too high. No problem in Holland then either. Also no problem in France, Belgium and Switzerland... But I'll ask in my Apotheke just to be sure.
Let me know as I am curious. I had read that article so remembered it covering the EU but only focusing on UK

Hi Des: treble checked for ya, straight from two horses' mouths: My GP today said: no problem, I could buy it, but then added: a 2mg-'retard'-version'd probably be better for me, which he then prescribed (i.e. extended release, exactly what I need); both would have 'absolutely no' side effects (O.o). The apothecary said the same, no problem buying melatonin even in higher dose otc in Germany. When I asked her if that had changed or is different anywhere else in Europe. She said no, and she didn't know, but Germany was much more restrictive than most of Europe in such cases, so she'd guess that it'd be no problem to get it in Spain, Italy etc. The reason for this extended release version needing to be prescribed was not more side effects, but just more varied uses approved of.
So here I am with melatonin, thanks to Kelly's question. And hopeful. Every now and again something turns up I haven't tried yet. If you're interested I'll keep you posted. If I don't have side effects, no-one will.
Hmm: Same reasons for my prescribed extended release version as in the UK, btw: 55yo with sleep problems. Quite a few side effects for me (and there are quite a few listed too): I felt numb, drowsy and drugged, my limbs extremely heavy (not just stiff), esp. the first night and a long time in the morning, I had more pain, felt shaky. I still had to get up 5x and woke up a further 3x the first night, 4x and 2x the 2nd night, cold and shaky later that morning. It also seems to be forcing me to sleep over 9h, or is it claiming what my body needs and has not quite been getting this week? I don't like it, even tho it's giving me more "sleep" - it doesn't feel like good sleep. Anyway, I'm stopping it for a few days, it & my GP says it's no problem to stop it, doesn't have to be weaned off, let's see....
Trying it more flexibly now: Halved it, so 1mg without the extended release effect, halfway thru a bad night helped me sleep for 3.5h, which is longest it ever gets... Also tried my 10% CBD oil again, 1 drop instead of 3, and that also helped a bit. In both cases reducing the dose stopped all side effects, esp. in both cases the "zombification" night and day after.
