My (brief) Story.

Hi. Aged 62. Original diagnosis was CFS in my 20,s. As pain grew changed to FMS. Following minor accident about 8 years ago MRI showed severe Cervical Spondylosis. Now in awful daily pain. Wake up in a real state. Just found this site and good to know from reading posts that my day to day experiences are common ones, and I’m not just going mad!

To my knowledge not a single family member or friend has ever read up on FMS. I wonder what they make of my ‘good day, bad day’ life, and whether they realise just what a state I’m in. Wish I could press magic button so they could experience it - just briefly. ‘wonder if people think I al off egging just how terrible I feeel. Ex teacher, early retired. Single. Knackered!

healthunlocked.com/fibromya..., hi there it’s horrid too be in pain and feeling rubbish, yes I agree if you could just put family/friends in our bodies for a few days they would differently get the picture. I hope you find the forum useful to read other s experiences and daily tips, we really do understand , I’ve posted a link above if you would like to lock your posts this gives you more privacy so only our community can see and not open to other site engines on the internet, take care xx

Hi a great welcome to you! On our sister site fmauk.org you can order a booklet that helps explain Fibro to anyone in basic terms. Your relatives and friends could give it a read if you got one sent?

Early retirement means you need to find some purpose away from home to do. Suggestion find a community place you can at least meet people. Just being with others is a distraction from pain. Volunteering on a low key basis is good. As ex teacher you have wealth of knowledge. Maybe get to listen to hear children read or do a craft session at a primary school? If you are in UK your local CVS is a good place to start.

On the Fibro front check web site I have given to see if there is a local support group near you that you could try?

Life is for living even with Fibro either you rule it or you rule it you decide!

Thanks so much for replying! Actually retired for 13 years so pretty much got the hang of it! I volunteered in early years. Now have parents in their 90’s, so little spare time or energy - I’ve jumped thro many, many hoops over the years to get things in place for them, and for myself. As I’ve had FMS for most of my adult life I had to learn to adapt quite young ( pre Internet). Always keeping abreast of new research across the globe, and trying to get as much balance as I can with eating, exercise, sleep.

What about you?!
