I worked in retail and was stood for 8 hours a day so in the end I had to leave and became self employed so I could work round the bad days. I am sure other people on here will be able to give you good advice regarding the awful "shredding" of doctor's letter and what to do next. Do you have a citizens advice bureau they are usually very helpful.

I went back to being an Avon rep. but had to give up that as well in January. I am now 62 and don't think I will be able to work again.

I'm 61. Am furious about this subject. I've had to give up work and now not much of an income in my own right. Good job I've a great husband who I rely on financially.

let us know how you get on, when chatting, do say you can do a,b,c but tills causing you issues.... And ( AHEM, WINK ,WINK ) maybe just slow things down a little when doing your job, i get a feeling you see something that needs doing, and you do it, not needed to be told etc, hence why they will not want to lose you

You do have a rights if you are a person with disabilities. It makes no difference whether others can see your disability or not. You must get help from your union and an Occupational Therapist to do a workplace assessment. Yes, it’s not easy but many organisations, in the 21st century, are unaware of their responsibilities to their employees. I’m not sure if you have Disability Employment Advisers at Jobcentres but mine helped me (it was me!!) & I was able to get the help I needed. Things have changed in the past few years but there are plenty of places that will support you like CAB (mentioned above). Can you not ask your GP for another copy of the original letter? I’ve kept all my medical notes, letters, scan results etc but they came in very handy when I eventually claimed PIP.

Good luck corky18. You’ll find this group very informative and supportive (but not all as gobby as me). 🤐 Take care. Nic xx

I totally understand how you feel, I worked

From the age of 15 in the kitchens, working my way up to opperations manager, working on my feet all day with only 15 minute break, the company were breaking the law having me work up to 16 hours a day on my feet. Like you, I did my job, wanted everything to be the best it could be, getting no better thought of for it.

Now I am 50 years old, can’t work anymore, find it hard to get around and can’t even lift a pan to cook anything for myself to eat. I can’t chop, peel or even bake the beautiful cakes I was known for.

I spend most of my time alone in my house in constant excruciating pain, so what I am trying to say is, “ put yourself first, don’t let people treat you that way, you have rites, seek legal advice”

Don’t end up like me.

Best wishes

Xx

ask your manager to bring in occupational therapist, they will determine what you can and can't do and will advise employer/manager as such if you are in a union they will also back you strongly on this. good luck

That's disgusting I would get another letter from your doctor give it to them again , have you not got any one you could go to higher than your manager , it's disgusting you are trying to stay in work but they are making thing impossible for you I think you can phone somebody to see where you stand with your employer .
