Diagnosis ......

Had a bad angina attack just before christmas and another similar attack in February. Since then have been getting chest pains so a reluctant visit to GP on Friday. Interesting conversations and symptom checking...he had a list of 68 symptoms..my score was 53, including pains that mimic heart pains..costochondritis. All symptoms added up to fibromyalgia...not entirely surprised as I came down with PMR in February 2008 after a traumatic house move in 2007. That cleared up after two years but various niggles remained. My two daughters have EDS and my Mother complained of "fibrositis" in her 60's.

So I should have taken more notice of my own symptoms and realised...but I didn't so time to gather information and advice please.....help!

Hi GangstaGranny , I wouldn't be hard on yourself, the symptoms of fibro are very similar to quite a few other illnesses so it is not an obvious condition to spot. Many of us have had to go through a long period of poking, prodding and numerous tests before receiving a diagnosis from a Rheumatologist or Neurologist. Plus I am sure you have been pretty pre-occupied with dealing with your angina.

You have certainly come to the right place for advice and information. If you go to our main site by clicking on the following:

fmauk.org/

and look down the right-hand side under "Most Read Content" you will see the topics "What is Fibromyalgia" and "Information Packs". There is an information booklet produced by FMAUK that is available to view online or you can request a printed version from Head office that should help give you a better understanding of the condition. You will also receive lots of helpful advice and support from our friendly members however I notice you haven’t locked your post. You don't have to but many of our members are not too keen on responding to unlocked ones therefore you are likely to receive more replies if you do, as it prevents the whole thread being read by internet search engines. Instructions on how to do this can be found on the link below but if you get stuck please don’t hesitate to ask for help.

In the meantime I would like to welcome you to the forum, we look forward to getting to know you better. Take care. x

The costochondritis is horrible. I didn't realise what it was either, and then realised I'd had similar for several years. ECG, chest X-ray and scan showed nothing amiss.

Then I read about costochondritis and the penny dropped. Heat stops the pain, a hot water bottle on my chest really helps. And also breathing in steam.

It's a case of finding what works for you as we're all affected differently by the wretched fibro beast.

Will try the heat pad, we don't use a microwave but have electric heat pad and small hot water bottles
