I usually describe it as being like they massage individual muscles in your body. Its hard to explain - but they push the muscle back/forth a couple of times in a specific movement - then leave you to lie for a few minutes before moving onto the next muscle group.

if you google it - you will find plenty of information xxx

Very interesting. There's a Bowen practitioner not far from me but I've never been sure about how it'd help fibro.

Can you keep us posted on how your sessions go ? Or send me a message if you prefer that ? My fibro is worsening and you've certainly given me something to think about.

i've had bowen off 2 different practitioners

no1 - fantastic results, and slight improvement in pain, and moving a bit easier with less stiffness

no2 - I was in agony during and after the treatment ..... and if I hadn't had it from No1 previously ...it would have put me off bowen therapy for life !!!

so - yes bowen has worked for me .... but results totally dependent on the individual practitioner xxx

I,ll try anything safe- can you emphasise what Bowens is hun?

Had Bowen Therapy once, but I found it did nothing for me.

Had several sessions and felt like a new woman as my body was mis-aligned and the practitioner straightened me out, lol. It is like a gentle rolling action, with soft music playing in the background. Wonderful experience for me. J XX

I haven't heard of it either and certainly wasn't offered it from the pain clinic. Wonder if you can get it on the national health?

I've had CBT, which helped me to place myself better and I've had acupuncture, which helped while I was having it and for about a week after, then the pain came back.

Unfortunately not available on NHS. Results depend on individual practitioner but worth every penny of 40 pounds an hour to me! The relief doesn't last for ever but it sure made life worth living for me for many months and some of my symptoms have decreased. I did have a reaction one time....felt absolutely dreadful. I rang and was reassured that it was because the treatment was working really well. Felt better the next day. Will have further treatments if/when necessary. J xx

Thanks for that info puddymaws. I'll have a look in my area to see if there are any practitioners near me. If it works that well for months it'll be worth trying. My acupuncture only works for a week or so after I've finished the sessions, so anything that lasts longer is good. 😊 Hope you have a pain free day. 💞

Hi I found Bowen to be effective , however if you can find a good Myofascial Therapist, I think this is more effective, mine has helped me with coping with the pain as well as curing extremely painful hands, which no other person could do. Good luck I hope the Bowen helps.

Hi eleanor68

Interesting that you suggest a Myofascial Release too, as Lindsey Middlemiss (previously a founder of FibroAction) mentions she used this in the post below if of interest to anyone;

Hi Emma,

How interesting, I read the above post and it seems both myself and Lyndsey have used the same person Sue Perry, also that we have been managing our Fibro in almost the exact same way, all I'm sure due to the advise from Sue Perry.

I have been in remission now for six months however insomnia is a huge problem for me, my nights have turned into day no matter what I try to get me off this treadmill of lack of sleep. I'm trying sleeping tablets for the first time and they don't work even on a double dose, I'm not happy about it taking pills but have come to the end of my tether, my doctor has been very helpful and calls me every week to see how things are developing, if I'm still not responding to the Zopiclone we shall try something else, I just need to get into the routine of sleeping all night once again to create some kind of order in my life. Wish me luck.......

If you live in the Berkshire area I suggest you try to see Sue Perry, however she dose have a waiting list, but she is well worth the wait.

Thank you for sharing Lindsey's post.

Take care and look after yourself

Amazing ! Seems you both got benefit, the centre for this practitioner is around 20 mins away from me but at present housebound with severe fatigue so unable to travel but may help others. Thanks for sharing! :)
