Hi , I'm new here , so please bear with me if I get confused or ask the same questions more than once .
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 2 months ago , 8 months after my 6th child was born . I have been advised to apply for PIP as my 19 year old daughter has to take over the majority of housework and childcare for my two youngest children ( 10 months & autistic 3 year old )
She has quit her job and changed to a local university just so she can be home more to help be . But I've heard so many horror stories of people getting refused and the assessor lying about them, I don't think I have got the energy or fight in me to challenge a negative decision 😢
I have just been awarded a blue badge and I filled out a form online for a free concession bus pass and it said I'm not eligible , is that because I'm not in receipt of PIP, even though I have the badge ?
It's hard enough trying to come to terms with this curse , let alone fighting for what I believe I'm entitled to x

Hi Kate49 Welcome to our wonderful forum, I'm sure you will love it and find it invaluable chatting to others who are going through the same as you, at different stages of their lives with fibromyalgia.
I'm sorry you have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and it does come as a bit of a shock and takes a while to get your head around it. Some people go for years struggling to accept living with a chronic pain condition. I have pasted a couple of links for you to read 're claiming PIP

The *GOV.UK cache says:
*You’re eligible for a disabled person’s pass if you live in England and are ‘eligible disabled’.
So it could be that you need to be in receipt of a disability benefit? It is not clear on the website?
I would apply for PIP as you have nothing to lose by doing so? I want to sincerely wish you all the best of luck and please take care of yourself my friend.
Most councils run a disabled buss pass scheme all you need normally is letter from your GP stating you have a disability that has a significant effect on your ability to walk .
Normally a one line form to complete as well
do not need to be on any benefits
Apply for PIP but do remember all questions and answers are based on your ability to look after yourself and what help you need .
Hi kate49, wow you must be busy with 6 little lovlies😊. It's nice to hear that your eldest is so helpful. She must be a little piece of heaven when you're struggling so much.
I applied for PIP around 7 months or so ago and had a lovely lady assess me and I was awarded it with no problems so please try not to worry about it all. It is a bit daunting and I have to admit it played with my anxiety but I wish I had let it all roll over me.
My advice would be to go full steam ahead with applying for PIP and not to worry, you've already been awarded your blue badge and the assessor will see for him/herself how your condition affects you.
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Worth applying for PIP if you have any issues with day to day activities such as washing, dressing, cooking a meal. If you are eligible for a blue badge this could help but not guaranteed. I think it is very individual and subjective to the assessor you have. It has been a very stressful journey for us. We tried twice for my daughter and going to appeal for the second time. However she has massively improved following doing the Lightening Process (see my post about 3 days ago for more details), so not sure what to do about the appeal now!

PS I would recommend looking into the Lightening Process. There is a book about it but I think the course is the best way to do it, but it is expensive.
