I live in South Florida, USA. Am thinking of moving to Northern California. Will cold affect Fibro? I've read pros and cons. Anybody know?❤
Hi TulipRose99. I personally wouldn't want to live anywhere with extreme weather, especially too cold. Cold upsets my arthritis and raynauds as well as the fibro. I end up walking like an old woman. But I couldn't live somewhere tropical either, I get heat rash, burn easily and always have to wear a hat as my hair is thin and my scalp burns so easily. My ideal place to live would be by the sea, Cornwall would be perfect, sand between my toes, warm sun on my face, watching the waves. So, yes, I do think cold affects fibro, even if it is just my mood. Good luck, Julie xxx
Thanks for advice. I,too, am happiest at the beach. The only good thing about northern Cal., it's a dry climate. I'll check carefully before doing anything. Thank you for caring.

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I am not a doctor so I cannot say for sure, however, the cold has a detrimental effect on my Fibro. I also have arthritis and the cold really affects this as well.
Mind you, we are all unique individuals and we all react differently to both our illness and our medications, so you never know exactly you will react to the cold?

Ken, thanks so much. I know many people in northeast USA who have horrible times in cold, but where I'm thinking of moving is dry. Better really check before making a change.

I personally am always much worse in the cold and much better in the warmth. I do not know if this is a general rule for fibro or not. But I have arthritis too, so know that contributes to my pain.

You're correct, it is a fact of life with Fibromyalgia. I live in a very humid climate and the barometric ups and downs are bad.
I have to check since I'd be living in 4 seasons, it's a dry climate. I better do some research, which I love.

cold is not good for fibro and the lack of light often causes huge problems the longer the day and brighter the light the better off you are . many fibro suffers have huge problems in winter and just want to sleep this is a well known condition S.A.D seasonal affected disorder and real lights help but the more light the better for Fibro and i love the warm cold makes me stiff and i tend to want to sleep 18 hours a day

Hi shezzz,thanks for caring. So.Florida is beautiful, but very humid. During hurricane season, June-November, is terrible for fibromyalgia. You are more than welcome to come to Florida. My favorite time is December thru the end of May. Windows opened, balmy nights, so just wait until after hurricane season.

I have moved from UK to Med as I feel better here. Are you able to try it out before you move. Hope you make the best decision for you.
Guess that you will have warm summers, and that will be a bonus. Maybe you can visit somewhere like Florida for a holiday in the worst of the winter.
I live in Northern Cali & have had CRPS & yes the cold effects me as dones the heat. I am not sure where you moving to in California? Please have their own opinions of what Northern Cali is, but if you let me know what city I can probably help you a lot more on the exact weather, humidity etc.

My son lives in Antiach , Ca. I've been there in all seasons. One year, around Christmas, it was very cold. I did feel it a bit. He wants me to move there since he is a dr. And knows I'll get better care there. I've been on LDN for 6 months and flareups are less and last just a few days.
It's a tough choice since I have my daughter and 2 beautiful grandaughters here. I also have. 2 granchildren in Ca. My son cannot come to visit me anymore, due to heart problems. I haven't seen him in 2 years. Really a tough one huh??
Any help will be most appreciated.

Dear TulipRose you are torn and you have a terrible choice to make i know i love my son and my daughter dearly and they are both close i wouldnt want to be choosing . so all i can suggest is you make the decision on how you feel about it .. dont be guilted or pushed or do it because you think you should.. sit down and decide what you want to do in the end its your life , and your decision and if you make it for someone elses reasons or because of duty ect you will regret the decision and resent the person ... So do what you truly want to do

Thanks,, you are so right.. It is tough, but I live alone and it's very lonely. I'm on disability so lost the opportunity of interaction with people at work. I wish I could live 6 months in Fl. and 6 months in California, but financially that won't happen .
I will make a choice based on my health. My daughter understands that it's nothing personal. It's what's best health wise.

I Live in washington, if the pressure changesc there do not bother you than you should be ok here. The temp in northern Ca is like here as i remember. I have problems with heat intolerance and humidity so spring and summer are hard . The himidity is usually around 80- 100%
Fall and winter are low. Temps 29- 50°. As long as you dress in layers year round you shpuld be ok.
