Hi pugwash80, yes, I do. , I do do this very same thing. I also am a 'larger lady' and am trying to stop this, but it is hard, & my meds don't help! It is hard isn't it to control when you want to eat and what we want to eat. Right now, there some bananas & apples that need to be eaten before they go off, but I really want shortbread biscuits with a cuppa, then popcorn. Yes, I am tired, and I just want to eat! Gentle hugs, Julie xxx

Yes I think so, stress, and boredom we can't win can we

Also a lot of the medication

hi, i am in the same boat as you ladies , bored eat in pain eat just feel i need more sugar in my body , i am not hungry half the time . it seams food is the devil and friend . no win situation . lets hope we can all do better in are painfull situation , stay strong (((soft hugs all)))

I kind of agree with you as I eat more because I'm stuck here all the time so eat out of boredom but tiredness makes me eat junk food like biscuits and cakes, crisps and choccy bars. I've started to buy more fruit and yoghurt for example to eat as snacks and tell myself that they are just as good LOL

My weight has rocketed since I took norethisterone for 6 months and also Pregabalin has helped with the weight gain too :( I can't exercise so like you it's getting me down :(

I am currently having to buy new clothes from knickers to tops and even coats the whole wardrobe needs replacing and can only buy a little at a time obviously because benefits don't allow for luxury purchases even when they're a necessity!

Sending some fibro busting fluffies filled with sunshine to you

I've read somewhere that poor / insufficient sleep is associated with and causes weight gain, but sorry don't know where

My Daughter did an essay on how stress affects sleep, & this came up in her research a lot. It keeps popping up in women's mags on 'new' ways to lose weight.

Meant to answer earlier.

There's a lot round this I think. We can blame steroids and other med, but they just increase appetite. I think the others missed low self esteem too. I don't know if that applies to you.

There's a big myth out there. Unless you cant exercise through your conditions the myth is we're big because we don't exercise. Not true. It now seems we don't exercise because we're big. And in some ways exercise is getting discredited, but you wont find many medics to agree with that, and none of us are up to the Schwarzenegger style work out. I'll go along with the sleep thing but not sure of the exact mechanism.

Sorry, that's lot of waffle when my answer to your question is YES.

When you get up in the night after failing to get to sleep or just cant do anything don't you also snack, or have a cuppa? I do.

Bottom line is I do sympathise but can't really offer any suggestions you haven't already heard. I know its a budget thing the more income the more expenditure there must be. I suppose its little comfort you're not alone. Gentle hugs. :)

Hey fenbadger, just noticed a play on words in your post - there's a 'big myth' here too, & 'big breaths', if you remember the old joke?! Hugs, Julie xx

Hi,

I agree. I've definitely put on a couple of stone. Think it's meds, lack of exercise and to be honest, sometimes we need to 'treat' ourselves!!! Life is tough, painful and sometimes the lack of energy brings boredom.

You're not alone!!

Gentle hugs x

Ladies, I am right there with you all. I am horrified by how much weight I have gained over the past 6 months but that still doesn't stop eating and often eating all the wrong things. There are many reasons for this but mainly it is for comfort in some form either because I am in pain, depressed, need/deserve a treat. The excuses I make to myself are many but each one is just that, an excuse. I know that if I weighed less a lot of the other things that my body struggles with would be easier and/or less painful but it is like I am in self destruct mode and I NEED to eat! Where are the magic wands when you need them? :-)

Hi pugwash

I sincerely hope that you are feeling as well as you possibly can be today? I have a very erratic sleep and eating pattern. Sometimes I hardly eat anything and then others days I will eat everything I get my paws on!

I was wondering if you have ever heard of AD36? It is a claim by doctors that we have a fat / obesity problem in the world because of a virus that alters the way we process food stuffs, and in particular fat? I know it sounds weird but I have pasted you a link to the NHS News link whereby they explain the issue. I saw a documentary on this over 2 years ago.

I genuinely hope that you can find the answers that you are looking for.

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hi Pugwash80, I do too! It's hard. This time last year I said 'enough is enough' I couldn't possibly feel any worse so I set myself a goal, which was my nieces wedding in August. It was hard as I have a terrible sugar addiction but I was determined to try. I have tried many times before but failed. I started first by forgiving myself for whatever I felt I needed to forgive myself for! Which is ridiculous because we are all beautiful! Food was a comfort to me as my husband works away, my daughter lives quite a distance from me and we are relatively new to this area and on top of that, the fibro so, no friends! I had depression too but that just made me eat more. My self esteem was at an all time low. It wasn't easy but I lost four stone by August and even my symptoms eased enormously! It was the most amazing feeling. I have put a little back on but I'm determined to get back to where I was. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Sorry this is long. Gentle hugs, Irene x

Yes I have found I get different kinds of hunger and massive sweet teeth.

'Normal' hunger when I haven't eaten in a while.

Boredom hunger when I feel like I would do anything just for something to do, so I eat because it it comforting. This is when you need food that takes time to eat slowly - like oranges that need peel/ nuts that need shelling etc gives your hands something to do.

Greed/desperation when I want sugar/fat and nothing else will do. Usually chocolate/sweets etc. I tried to stop to stop this by not having it in the house but if I do that I find myself hunting the house like a wild animal looking for salt/sugar/fatty foods. So I try now to eat what I want but limit it so I don't eat it all at once. This is very hard.

And finally Tired hunger when my body is telling me I have over exerted and need more fuel, I know my body/brain is lying to me. I don't need more fuel, but that seems to be they way my brain interprets the fatigue/pain - that I must have done something strenuous and burned all the food. So it turns on the 'must eat more' signal.

Hang in there, we all know what you're coping with xxxxxxxxxx

I have the same problem. Before my knee injury and fibro I was in the Navy and a keen runner so could eat whatever I wanted and not put on weight. But over the last 4 years have put on about 6 stone!!! Very upset and embarrassed about my size now but can't seem to do anything about it :( when it comes to buying new clothes tho I have found that eBay is great for getting a bargain.

Gentle hugs to you xxxx

Hiya,

I believe there is a great "link" between fibromyalgia, low sugar levels and tiredness.

I have read several articles about fibromyalgia and Reactive Hypoglycaemia ( sudden falls in blood sugar levels).

If you "Google" fibromyalgia and Reactive Hypoglycaemia you can see these articles.... they suggest there is a problem with insulin levels in fibromyalgia patients which causes sudden dip in blood sugar and this leads to tiredness and intense cravings for sugar.

I find it is best if I eat small meals often ( every 2/3 hours) and include foods with a low Glycaemic index ( e.g. oats, vegetables) which helps to stabilize my blood sugar levels, for example I have porridge for breakfast ( I sprinkle it with cinnamon, because this is supposed to help stabilize blood sugar).

Hope this helps you xxx :)

Thank you will have a lookie xxx

I watched the program

" Secret Eaters" last week & they did a test on people half they let sleep all night the other half they woke up twice during the night and got them to fill in questionnaires. The next day they gave both groups a bag of equal food each & the group that had not slept ate 30% more food the next day than the other group & this result was the same as bigger studies done throughout the country.

As I haven't slept at night for a whole week not only do I eat more the next day, but also I eat more or less constantly throughout the night. I live opposite a 24 hour garage which is a nightmare when I'm in a lot of pain because I reach straight for cakes chocolate & biscuits. I have put on nearly 3 stones in 2years & desperate to get weight off, nurse suggested Slimming World or Weight Watchers as I could get the fees paid as weight gain effecting my health but I did Slimming World before I did lose nearly 3 stone, but it was also

The catalyst to me developing Bullimia & my eating disorder consultant said I should never attempt thst type of weight loss again.

It doesn't help that the Tesco Express down the road keep doing 4 bars of chocolate for £1, & cakes reduced and also DipDabs yum yum I need HELP lol

There was a program on TV the other night, at the end of the sleep experiment it was scientifically proven that those who have disturbed sleep eat one third more than those who don't, and eat the less healthy options. In that case none of us stand a chance! !

Morning Pugwash,

I too am a larger lady, not helped my the medication - pregablin- I find myself permanently endeavoring to eat the "right" thing.

There are days when I am in serious pain that I crave chocolate it must be chocolate nothing else will meet my expectations.

I have been being good since January no chocolate and with serious head on and lots of lettuce, parsley, fish and chicken I have lost two stone. I still have a serious amount to tackle it is a good thing I love salad!

So yes tiredness exhaustion excess pain, despair , etc the list could be long! But my way of handling this and Fibro is to endeavor to be up beat happy have fun learn to live, love ,laugh with what I am, who I am and above all to help others to enjoy their lives.
