Maybe look at the website of drrind.com and see if you have any of the symptoms of Adrenal Insufficiency. When we secrete too much cortisol - under stress - then that can prevent good sleep. The more we cannot sleep the more we become stressed. Try taking B12 and Magnesium before you go to bed to relax muscles and nerve endings. You do not mention what prevented you from sleeping - was it pain - or something else ?

I was diagnosed with Fibro over 14 years ago. I too used to be awake for 3 or 4 hours in the night - perfect for getting my Greek homework done :-) I now sleep well ......

Morning I too was about at 5am it is usual for me I sleep but for only a couple of hours and that is it. I think a lot of us are in the same boat and I believe it comes with the territory ! For myself it is pain and discomfort that keeps me awake and some times stress how about you?

Ahhh yes the dreaded Fibro, it seems to have its claws into everything we try to do, I listen to relaxation music on my phone or mp3 before I go to sleep, I avoid caffeine after 4 o'clock, drink camomile tea and eat a banana before bed it helps a little for me.

Thanks for your addvice

Also don't watch TV in bed or lie there tossing when you know you can't sleep. Get up for a while and then try to go back to bed later. What happens is over time your subconscious mind starts to associates getting into bed with not sleeping. Good luck.

try not to do things that keep you brain active before you go to bed. Avoid caffeine and try reading a book to relax just before bed. I don't sleep through the night an wake up about 2-3am. I

get up then for an hour or so then go back to bed. I also have naps during the day sometimes. Hope this helps. Blasted fibro.

lots of hugsx

Hi and welcome Lynn, a very clever Fibro friend on here told me about blue light (the light that tv's, computers etc give off ) and how that doesn't help our ability to sleep, I, being somewhat synical , tried not to watch tv after 8.00 and guess what, it has helped, not completely, because pain wakes me. It may be worth you giving it a go? Also the stimulus you get from watching tv in bed will also make you less sleepy because your brain is engaged in something, which just what you don't really need to help you sleep.

I hope this makes a bit of sense and that your doctor can give you what you need to help your pain and something perhaps to help you sleep !

Take care :-)

Foggy x

Good morning,

So sorry to hear you're struggling so much with sleep. It's awful isn't it. Mention to your GP next time you have an apt. Unfortunately it does seem to be part of the whole fibro thing. I hope you get some night time sleep soon.

(By the way, I am also called Lyn Marie!!) Take care

Good morning,I too used to have this problem when I first got diagnosed and then the pain clinic prescribed me amitriptyoline to try which is a tricyclic antidepressant that helps with pain, mood and sleep. It worked for me but left me sleepy the next day so I changed to dosulepin and have never looked back.I mostly sleep through the night but do have the odd night where I wake up.However since my depression has come back the waking up in the night has become more of an issue so Iam going to ask to change antidepressant. It has also made me put on weight as well. However, this may not be the same for you as we are all different with regards to how medications affect us.Its worth mentioning it to your g.p xxx

Hi Lynn sorry to hear your not sleeping, it can drive you nuts cant it....as gins says the majority of us on here have the same problem, ..I take magnesium and black garlic around 8.30pm it does help a little and a little is better than nothing, plus magnesium is good for fibro sufferers, and garlic is like an antibiotic and it purifies the blood, can't remember the last tim I had a cold or sniffles....have you tried a cup of warm or hot milk at bedtime....wishing you happy dreams lol......hugs......Dee x

It sucks I know, I had this two weeks ago, I got to the point if I did not get a proper sleep soon, id would end up of sick from work again, can not afford that. So phoned my GP he has been very supportive to me and suggested a sleeping tablet to try and break the cycle, waited till weekend and things had settled down. I increased one of my meds, from one to two tablets, and this helped before I even got to use the sleeping tablet, but they r on stand by. It was as if id gone from no sleep to getting five hours hope this holds. I've been bad for the last few months . The sleeping tablet that I've not used yet is called zopiclone. The medicine that I've increased from one to two witch has help for now, is called clonazepam, one was not quite enough. Hope this helps, and try not to stress this will make things worse. Good luck .

Hi, not sleeping is not so nice , as it ruins your day time things (cannot think of words)

I get zopiclone from my Gp when sleeping not good.

See your Dr if on meds , you can go chemist but they more thsn likely direct you to Dr, if your not on any meds Nytol .

(I worked in pharmacy 8 yrs although not a 'professional' i can give you my experience) :-) xxx

Sleep with heather under your pillow too xxx
