Hi there lola, and welcome to our site, which I think is the very best one around for information, advice, support and friendship. As you haven't been long diagnosed, you probably have lots of questions so if you visit our mother site fibroaction.org you will, I have no doubt, find many answers.

We are a friendly lot of people and we try to have some fun as well as exchanging experiences and helping each other as needed, so do feel free to join in with any of the posts you see.

I'm sending lots of positive vibes your way, and look forward to seeing you about the forum :-)

Hi, sorry, I should have added that there are many of here who have had to face up to the fact that we are no longer able to work, that isn't to say you might not be able to continue, but just to say that if you really feel you can't keep working there is no shame in admitting it and stop working. It isn't an easy option, but you have to sort out what is best for you and your overall health, and it may well be that the job you have isn't one that is compatible with the stress and strain of Fibro. Please though don't feel in any way that makes you any less of the person you are, what it does is make you make sure that the right decisions with regards to your health are met, and that is really of prime importance.

Sorry for my little diatribe, and I hope it makes sense - quite often I don't :o

Hello lola65 and welcome,

This issuch a friendly site, lovely people so hope you not feeling lonely for long. I was diagnosed few months ago and know how great it is to have a name to your condition but also know how isolated, confused, angry and sometimes totally baffled at times. But one of the most important steps you have already taken, connecting to others who truly understand the emotions relating to this condition. The trials and tribulations in managing it and adapting our environment continually and ensuring we look at an extended support network at home, socially, medically and at work. Its awful that when you feel at your worst physically and mentally its our emotional courage that moves us forward in addressing our network of people to really work for us.

So sorry if this sounds bit heavy. Just want you to know you are not alone but need to address what you can and can not do.

I wish you well. Hugs

K

Sorry but it is very normal I'm afraid! Depending on ur type of work ie office based or very physical manual, it is possible to keep working if ur company are understanding. Also helps if you have an occupational health dept. I had to give up a great job last year but my hubby is v ill and we have a child so it could not manage without hubby's support as he did a lot before his accident which enabled me to work as I only have one working arm due to RTA years ago. I just couldn't cope and got so tired in the afternoons and my 20 mile drives home were not good!! I met with my OH Dept and we agreed I couldn't carry on but I still find my life a struggle!! Speak to your employer and make sure u have info sheet on fibro as they prob never heard of it. Maybe the job centre could help to adapt ur workstation or u could move ur hours. If u r in lots pain ask GP to refer u to pain clinic and physio who can offer acupuncture etc. hope this helps a little.

That is interesting because a lot of people with fibro have history of an RTA and whiplash.

Hi lola65

I am so sorry to read that you are not getting much luck with your GP, and I wondering if they have prescribed you any medications for your Fibro? I was wondering if you also see any specialists such as Rheumatology or a Pain Management Clinic? As these can be quite useful?

It may help to be prepared the next time that you see your GP and make a list of what you need from them? Or possibly look for another GP within your surgery who you may get a better response from?

All my hopes and dreams for you

Hello!! I was diagnosed with fibro in Dec and, like you, felt pretty rubbish! Had to give up my job, claim for benefits and became a different person over the space of a year..BUT!!!.... I have a fab Dr and I think you need to try and sort that out first! If your surgery has many DR's in the practice perhaps you could speak to the receptionist to find out if any of them specialize in chronic pain disorders! Then ask that dr to refer you to a "pain clinic" where you will have a great deal of support and information that can really really help!! These things are just taking shape for me now and although the wait may be long and tiring the outcome will be brighter... :-D Everyone on here will have their own bit of advice for you....so take the bits that you need for now and store the rest away!!...Oh yeah!!!!......... WELCOME...:-D :-D :-D

Hi Lola65,

I can't offer any further advice than what you have been given :) I can say a big welcome to our forum. I work part time in a busy office, I am lucky with my bosses, partly because I am the only one who does my job. Some days it is hard to work others its fine, I am learning to roll with it. What I have learned from the people here is that it is most definitely not one size fits all. Big hugs :)
