Apparently Lack of sleep and weight gain linked.

Good morning . Just been listening to breakfast tv apparently a study of 10 years suggests that if you don't have enough sleep it may cause weight gain. Your body craves sweet fatty foods. That's basically the gist. Here's me thinking its cost me a fortune in prescriptions to have gained weight. Haha here's to a better sleep. Have a restful pain free day well we all can live in hope. X

Hi Riles

It is true about craving Fatty foods I am struggling not to go near them so I keep a box with nuts in instead so I can have one or two if necessary. I think one of the problems lies in that so many of us are very immobile and so we do not burn the sugar and fats off so easily.

Sleep is a problem for many of us I only get 3 -4 hours a night and after a while it becomes habit. The pain in my legs wakes me up and after 3.am thats it I am waiting to get up.

I hope you slept reasonably and manage a good day

I agree, I've always been led to understand you still burn calories whilst asleep! but if you are just lying there not sleeping for some reason the calorie burning doesn't kick in.

For other reasons for years I've eaten just a bit of cereal before bed and that apparently fires the metabolism .....but not fatty things before bed !

Yeah, it's a vicious cycle. But I don't know if I'm gonna be able to blame insomnia for all of my weaknesses of giving in to my sweet tooth, (or should that be teeth!)

Hello All,

I totally understand the cravings and the best advice I think I can personally say to consider is eating popcorn as your sweet snack. There has been reports of the benefits of popcorn including high in fibre and contains Vitamin B6, Magnesium & Iron too.

It has also been used as part of dieting to help weight loss/control. I certainly find it is a light snack and without too much information helps with going to the loo, as many experience constipation from our medication.

I would personally promote a healthy diet and pacing to slowly increase exercise tolerance, all dependent on your pain control. Here is the results of the recent poll we did on diet

Any excuse for a good movie, grab a bag of popcorn & enjoy !!

That sounds great, like fibrofoggiest I too thought it wasn't the best food to eat, but hey oh I'm off shopping tomorrow I'll certainly be putting bagS in my trolley. Julie 63 is not on her own I can't blame lack of sleep for all of my weight gain. It might also have something to do with the fact a chocolate drawer has now become a chocolate cupboard. Ha ha

Hi Riley, fellow chocoholic! I have been trying not to buy any more sweeties & choccies, I often buy them 'cos when I see them on the shelves I can almost already taste them & so crave their sweet chocolatey creamy goodness............ Oops, started thinking about chocolate again, drools, must snap out of it!! I keep telling myself that my problem is that I have to buy nice things for the kids, you know how it is, but then the goodies are there & the kids are at school & I need a fix, and, well, that's it really, impossible to resist.

Yep - I can resist anything except temptation!
