I try to take strong meds at night, so as not to drive, I just think Insurance! would you be covered if (god forbid) you had an accident. The leaflets put the onus on you to take responsibility for your choices.

I used to drive on co dydramol tablets as they said only stop driving if they make you tired which they didnt .... But then I was informed by my GP that if I had an accident while taking any strong meds like that or opiates and they were found in my system at the time then my insurance company COULD he didnt say would but there is a chance your insurance company could say your insurance is invalid .... I have since had to stop driving anyway but it was a shock to me ..... As its a no win situation ... If you ask your insurance company they could well say no we won't cover you or you carry on driving and hope you don't have an accident... I haven't driven for 6 years so things may have changed... Have you asked your GP what he thinks as he sees you while you are taking these meds

Hi Khwai,

The best person to ask for advice would be your pharmacist - they know more about drugs than anyone, and are usually aware of the legalities associated with them.

If you feel at all sedated, I would give driving a miss. You can't be too careful when you consider that you're in charge of a ton of metal moving at high speed!

I am to concerned as I take cocodamol diazepam and mirtazapine and gabapentin which say the same do not drive if affected .a wile back I asked my doctor for advice he said to be on the safe side with the insurgence to tell them why I was taken them and what so I did, they was not realy bothered unless I had to inform dvla .

If you do have an accident when filling out the forms you have to put any medication that could effect your driving so I am confuesed and anxious .

We have just replaced are paper licenes for the new plastic ones online after doing so I whent in to health illnesses you have to declare there is a very long list depression ,anxiety is on there but it does say only if your doctor has advised you to tell then if it effects your driveing I to think they can get you what ever you do because different insurenc company s say different ,I did inform my company but they was not bothered but on claime forms you have to state any meds your on I know because of 2 accidents I have had that was not my Fulte one a deer run out in front of me the other the other driver run off so had no one to claime off of I am going to see my doctor to see what else he can say .my children are just starting to drive they are 19 and 25 my oldest cant he is 27 because of learning difficulty s so I mite give up driving I no I will miss it but feel safer ,I don't think my meds effect my driving but still worrie xcherokeex
