NHS Protocols

hello,

I’m currently with a central London fertility clinic on the nhs (we have a genetic issue). I’ve done three rounds all with the same stims and approach to the cycle. I was wondering if anyone had a similar experience with the nhs where the protocol feels standardised?

Thanks

Yes, that's exactly how I felt when we were with the NHS. From my cycle with the NHS I got 6 fertilised embryos that were frozen on day 3 (they told us they don't work weekends, so if you're unlucky and have your egg collection mid week they freeze on day 3). I did one fresh transfer with a top quality embryo (even though I knew my body wasn't up for it as I was recovering from OHSS) and three FETs on the NHS. All of which failed. That's when we decided to go private as there was no explanation as to why we kept experiencing failed embryo transfers, and were just told to keep trying.

My private clinic did additional testing which showed that I was pre-receptive and needed an extra day of progesterone prior to transfer. It was a hard pill to swallow knowing that no embryo, no matter how good the quality, would have stuck under the NHS normal procedure. They also discovered I had an autoimmune condition that needed treatment prior and after transfer. They also cultured the embryos to day 5 before they froze them. They also put me fully to sleep for egg collection because I had a lot of follicles and they could potentially get more eggs if I was fully relaxed (the NHS got 13 eggs while my private clinic got 21 eggs out - despite me being 2 years older).

I'm now almost 16 weeks pregnant, and this was using an embryo from my private cycle (my first try with an embryo from that cycle), and aftermy treatment plan was changed to meet what my body required. I felt like my private clinic really tailored everything to my needs and didn't leave any stone unturned when it came to investigations.

Hope this helps and sending you luck and baby dust! X

Thanks that really does help.

We’ve exhausted our NHS rounds (3) and I’m just waiting on the outcome of the final egg collection. I know I’m jumping ahead with the results and outcome of this round not finished but something didn’t feel right this morning when I came out of theatre and with 16 follicles only 4 eggs and none from the right side. It didn’t make sense. Thanks for sharing your experience with me. I appreciate it… sending you lots of positive baby dust and 🤞🏽 for a smooth pregnancy! x
