I know it is so hard to say but generally I have read so much about quality over quantity, the fact I just had 32 eggs retrieved during egg collection has me wondering...
I see most people generally get around 8-15 eggs, so 32 seems excessive (and also v painful right now!) and I have seen a lot of anecdotal evidence of women getting 30+ eggs but barely any blasts at day 5. I know I won't know now for a few days but does anyone have any positive stories from people who had more than 30 eggs but still a good outcome?
We are freezing and doing PGT-A testing, too. But obviously worried that many eggs = not many good embryos.
Also was just told I need to do another 5 days of fyremadel because of my, and I quote the doctor, 'massive' ovaries post-ER, ha.
Thanks in advance!

Hi! I had 32 follicles, of which 24 were mature eggs, 18 fertilised via ICSI, got 3 day 5 embies and 3 day 6 ones. First FET was a BFN, the second one is my baby girl. So I don't think there is a clear correlation between quantity and quality. The one thing I would say though with so many eggs collected is that you are at a higher risk of OHSS. I developed it on day 5 after egg collection, i.e. what was supposed to be transfer day, so we had to do a freeze all. Make sure to drink plenty of fluids and eat a protein rich diet. My clinic recommended protein shakes and yoghurts a few times a day, apparently these help absorb the liquid that gathers due to the OHSS. Very best of luck with the next steps! I hope one of these eggs is your rainbow baby
Thanks for your reply and congrats on your baby girl! Love to hear these positive outcomes.
And yes, the clinic has given me fair warning about ohss, and I have to admit I am feeling pretty sore and uncomfortable from the whole thing. I just hope it was all worth it! And weirdly looking forward to hearing how many fertilised tomorrow.
I hope you have a hot water bottle that should help relieve some discomfort and also if you are constipated getting something to help go will also relieve some more discomfort
Best of luck don’t stress this journey is alredy damn hard. I know it’s easy to say but hard to do as I am also going through second cycle next week is my egg collection.
Just wanted to say hi and good luck, your post caught my eye as I’m also an orange cat mum! Hope all goes well for you!
I just had my first 5DET and have two days to go until my OTD, however just got a BFN so thinking this might not be my time. But do have two embryos frozen so if it’s not this time will hope for next. Good luck with everything and keep us posted! X
Oooh fingers crossed for you - if not this time, having some in the bank is great. And hope your orange cat is behaving for you during this time - mine can definitely sense something is afoot, ha!
If you get so many eggs, you should get a few embryos to choose from, but a lot of them won't make it (so you may have a higher drop off rate than someone with fewer eggs). Really go to the a&e if feeling uncomfortable. The earlier they catch an ohss, the better. I had a medium one and did not love it.
I had 26 mature on my first round, 19 fertilised, 5 made it to blastocyst and 1 PGTA normal, there is a funnel, a frustrating one 😂 but sounds like you’ve got great odds.
I’m 40 hence the low normal fig and same happened on my second round.
I felt very uncomfortable after my 2nd round - like I felt each ovary was bruised as I walked. I drank plenty of water and took some paracetamol (was told no ibruprofen) and bounced back after 4-5 days. I bounced back after first round so it was quite the shock. But did teach me a lesson- every round is very different .
amazing! 32 is great! There will probably may be a larger drop off than normal between now and blastocyst but having more now means that even with a big drop off you’re likely to still have some embryos 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 my friend had 50 eggs retrieved, and that made 11 blastocysts! And her first transfer took and the embryo split and she ended up with identical twins!
wow amazing!! My friend had about that number collected and has over 10 embryos in the freezer still after her first ever transfer of one brought her her little boy so it defo doesn’t mean less embryos or less quality! It was a frozen transfer though due to risk of OHSS which she did get a bit so be really careful lovely 💜 rest up and big hugs your wee ginger cat 🐈 for a few more days yet 🤗 xx
Hi, congrats on the huge number of eggs collected. I didn't have as many as you, but i did have 18 eggs collected, 15 fertilised and 13 made it to day 5+6 blasts, which are now all in the freezer. I had huge and painful ovaries after EC too, which was moderate OHSS. My clinic was strongly against me doing a FET with the OHSS as pregnancy exacerbates it. However when we got to day 6 and was told the final number of blasts, it really did ease the emotional pain of having to take a 2 month break to recover from the OHSS.I'm hoping you also get a good number of blasts, please look after yourself. Good luck x
Thanks all for your lovely comments! It has definitely calmed me a bit - it's so good to hear other stories.
We just heard from the clinic and of my 32 eggs, 25 were mature and 18 fertilised with ICSI! Pretty pleased with that! I know the numbers will have a sizeable drop off between now and next week, but feeling like this is a good place to start.
And thanks all for the OHSS guidance. Not feeling quite as sore today (seriously yesterday I could barely move, it felt like someone had done the washing up inside me and put my organs back in the wrong place) but today it has eased a bit. The bloating is insane though - I look 6 months pregnant! The irony.
This is fantastic news! Wishing you all the luck! If you don't mind me asking, will you be doing a fresh transfer? Keep us posted, really excited for you😁
Ahh thanks love! No, we are doing an FET - we are PGT-A testing our embryos but I wouldn't be allowed a fresh if I wanted to, the clinic says I am too at risk of OHSS.
And yes, will definitely keep on with the updates! This place is so fab for the community support
