egg collection and bad cold/flu

Once again I’m a cheap date and after only one week of stims I’ve triggered last night for egg collection tomorrow morning (Thursday) everything looks about the same as last few times about 7-8 follicles ready (between 17-22mm) and some others not far behind.

I am really worried though as I had a bit of a cold the last few days and now today Ive woke up feeling horrendous 😥sore throat, cough stuffed up etc will this affect anything? Egg quality, sedation etc? My egg quality has been the issue on the last few fresh rounds so I really don’t want this affecting that 😩 I know it’s fine when it’s a frozen transfer to be a bit ill but I’ve never been poorly for a fresh egg collection before! I haven’t taken anything for the cold at all as I’m scared it will mess up my lining or hormones. 😬😬😬 any advice/thoughts really appreciated!!

So sorry you have to worry about this. Check with the nurses for sure. I hope someone with more science knowledge can give an answer. My guess is that nobody knows for sure.

For my last OE go I was feeling unwell on the day of trigger, not cold symptoms but generally unwell, nauseua, aches and put it down to side effects. After the retrieval I woke up from the sedation with a sore throat and runny nose. 2 days later I was positive for covid. I contacted the lab and asked if this would affect the quality of eggs or embryos and they said they didn't have any evidence to confirm negative effect of covid on eggs/retrieval only on sperm. Luckily it was a planned freeze all cycle and didn't have to worry about transfer

however we had only one blastocyst from 8 fertilised. From previous cycles we had 3 blastocysts from a similar number of fertilised eggs. This could be due to me being a few months older though or any other reason.

I know that during the pandemic clinics would cancel retrievals for these reasons for avoiding spreading covid.

I hope you feel better and it all goes well tomorrow

Thank you ☺️ I don’t think it’s Covid thankfully it’s a bug that the nursery has been spreading around 🤧 as the day goes on I’m feeling a little better so fingers crossed it’s on its way out! I would lose most of my money if I cancelled at this point anyways so I may as well go and see if these eggs are any good as long as I’m okay being sedated! Xx

oh so sorry you’ve had to worry about this. Hope your egg collection has gone well today. I had mine yesterday and have also been feeling rubbish for quite a few days (high temp and sore throat). I mentioned it to the clinic and they didn’t seem worried but I’m really hoping it clears up by Monday for our transfer (if we get that far) xx
