Mild IVF scans/drug timeline - trying to fit a break away in before hand...

Hi,

I wondered if anyone could help with explaining mild IVF times with natural cycle timelines re when scans/drugs would be, I do get they vary with clinics, I'm going with ABC fertility.

I do have an appointment to speak with a nurse in a week's time so they will go through it with me. The reason I'm trying to get an idea how it works is because I have the chance of a 4 night break away (only a 2.5 hour drive away from clinic)which would fall across days 24-28 of my cycle.

My cycles usually last 26-28 days. Was thinking if scans or injections weren't needed till day 3 then I could likely do the get away, and if I had to cut it a day short it would still be worth it. the plan would be a relaxing break, nothing strenuous.

Any had experience of doing this just before starting a cycle and if they felt it was of value or just worried them re the unpredictability of menstrual cycles

Thanks in advance X

When you say you’re away days 26 - 28 days is that the cycle before you start or after you’ve started? I was on a short term protocol paying privately in the UK and it went like this:

Day 1 of cycle called clinic to book I

Day 3 of cycle started injections and scan

Day 7(ish) and Day 9 - scans

Day 12 - Final scan and trigger injection

Day 14 - egg collection

Day 16 - put egg back and no further scans as this is implantation part

Based on this you could go away and actually I’d recommend it as it will take your mind off everything.

Hope this helps.

Sorry I should have made it clear, it's the cycle before I start mild IVF.

Thank you for your timeline, thats so helpful. Maybe I ask the day after egg collection and day of having the egg put back in did you feel well enough to work or did you take time off?

Yea that's what I was thinking re the break away, it's currently annual leave time from work and if I'm off and at home I know I will just be waiting on my period or end up logging into work but feel like some refresh time will be good beforehand x

I didn’t work the day after collection and day of transfer, but I would have been well enough to. I wasn’t in any pain. I have read in lots of forums that people are uncomfortable after the collection, but I wasn’t. Also, transfer is like a smear test (normally) so whilst uncomfortable not too painful. Actually having something to distract you is not a bad thing.

Re. the break - there is a chance of your cycle is shorter that the clinic would call you call in during your break away BUT whilst annoying it sounds like you may be able to get back of away.

I hope this helps. It is an emotional process so having a break away is a great idea, so long as you won’t feel stressed about coming onto your period whilst away.
