I know that I need to bring my BMI down to below 29 to gain funding for IVF (my consultant let me now this in December) but I have noticed on the funding guidelines it states that I must bring this down to 29, and keep it at 29 or below for 6 months before treatment can start.
Has anyone else had experience of this? I am concerned at 33 I am going to need to lose the weight, then keep the weight off and I will be tipping 34 by the time I get to IVF funding.
thanks so much x

oh my goodness. I swear bmi was the Bain of my life. So my bmi was 35 (at one point it was 43) and I busted my backside off to get it down below 30. Turns out It had a detrimental impact on ivf coz losing the weight so quickly had messed up hormones etc.
if you are going to do it… slow and steady. I needed mine under 30 and it also had to stay for 6 months. They wouldn’t put me forward until it was at 30 and said when the appointment comes it has to be there or below or it would get postponed. It was an absolute nightmare. Sorry it’s not better news for you xxx
Yes I had to get mine down it was 33 I think, I started running on my lunch breaks, just ate healthy and cut out white carbs, caffeine and sugar. It took about 3 months for me to get below 29 and then I just kept up the running and healthy lifestyle my bmi stayed under 29 fo the 6 months before I could apply for funding. Use the time to get your body and mind ready for IVF if your not already taking any vitamins I would suggest you start taking some preconception vitamins, folic acid and coenzyme q10. I was 36 when I started my IVF journey, 34 is not too old to being starting IVF. Good luck 👍
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I have come straight out of a chemical menopause so the weight I have gained is due to medication and in the words of the consultant "will be very hard to shift". I'm also against the clock as they wanted me to start ivf this year due to me turning 34. Starting to think having my own family might just be a pipedream now.
