Surgically removed sperm - one vial left

Hello,

We are male factor, but I also only get 3 eggs per round. (37) We have one vial left of surgically removed sperm, my husband will not do another retrieval.

We have just had a failed round (3 eggs collection, one fertilised but didn't make to day 5 blast)

Interested to hear if anyone has been in same situation. Would you say for me to do 2 rounds of egg collections back to back to hopefully get 6 eggs to use with this one vial?

Any experience of splitting frozen sperm vials?

Any experience of back to back cycles?

Thank you.

Just out of interest, why wouldn't your husband do another retrieval??Seems odd when it's a joint process and you keep going through egg collections 🤔.

My husband needed retrieval too, first time we got 6 vials, second time only 2...but he would have done it as many times as we needed.

He found the retrieval extremely painful and really knocked him for many months after. I am not sure if your husband felt the same?

It is a battle we are having against each other as yes I would do endless.

We are very lucky to have one DD. She was a made when I only got one egg in a collection in 2021. I think he doesn’t want the stress when we have been so fortunate to have made her.

My husband found the second one a bit more uncomfortable afterwards but the first one he was fine.I guess different people react differently...but it just seems a bit one sided. Egg collections are no walk in the park!!

Obviously you know your relationship and situation best, but you might need to have some uncomfortable conversations about what you both want as it doesn't seem that you're on the same page?

But... you have one vial left, and like you said maybe doing a couple of egg collections and egg banking would be best. Although you should definitely discuss what would happen after if that doesn't work.

Thank you for your feedback.

I think he might be open to another operation… we are having a consultation with his doc and will see…

Hi, I did some research after we used my husband's surgically removed sperm, and I found out it's not as successful at fertilizing. I had 5 eggs, our donor had over 30, and still there was only one good embryo. I wish we would have used a sperm donor. I just feel like it might be a waste of your eggs to keep trying with it.

Sorry, just letting you know what I wish I had known. Good luck 💕

thank you for the input! We have a 14 month old girl made with just the only blast we made, all others failed so we were very lucky. Just trying again but we won’t be able to do rounds and rounds like we did last time.
