Testing for smokers

My partner and I have always been social smokers. We would normally have about 5/6 cigarettes that we would share on an evening out which would be 1-2 times a month. December we probably smoked a bit more. But we stopped on the 29th but then had three naught ones that we shared a few days later. This was due to receiving some sad news in our family. Haven’t had any since and we don’t plan on doing so again. But, we just got the call for the smoking test we need to have done on 14th Feb. I must admit, I am absolutely panicking about this as I’m worried that it’s still not long enough for the nicotine to have left our system. We have been trying for a baby for about five years now and last year we decided to get help and have been approved for IVF funding. I am in my early 40’s and my OH is in his mid 40s so I feel this is really our last chance and I’m afraid we might have ruined our chances. Any stories similar to ours with success would be very helpful and encouraging. Thank you x

Try hard not to smoke again -it may be hard but think on getting treatment as your reward ! Generally nicotine will leave your blood quite quickly but you will also notice how much more healthy you feel Not out of breath - hair fresh etc Hope test goes well and good luck with treatment

Take care

hi- they don’t test for nicotine at my clinic it’s a carbon monoxide test- have they said they are actually testing for nicotine like through your hair or something? For the carbon monoxide test my partner was about 2 weeks completely clear when they tested (20 a day smoker) and it was fine). The first test she wasn’t and they told said to come back in 3 months (so it wasn’t a complete go away never come back even if it is detected) so if it’s just the carbon monoxide I think you will likely be okay 🤗💜 make sure you have a new coping strategy though for any bad news era or just the IVF journey as it can get rough sometimes and without your usual go to it might be really hard for you both 🤗 xxx

The test I had to do was on the same machine I use at work which detects carbon monoxide over last 48 hours so by Feb it will be absolutely fine x
