Moving clinic + private Hysteroscopy + other questions!

I’m moving my blastocysts from the NHS to a private clinic and they recommend doing a hysteroscopy before the next transfer since I had 3 miscarriages. How much did you pay to have it done privately? It’s £1350 in this clinic!

Probably we don’t need to do karyotyping (1st baby hasn’t been tasted, 2nd was healthy and for the 3rd we are still waiting for citogenetics test results to come back)

I had 2 transfers and got pregnant twice, but later miscarried. I’m 33 and they recommend a double transfer of both of my blastocysts, a 5BB and 6BC. Does this sound strange to you?

Hi

That seems a reasonable cost for a hysteroscopy and sensible to have that before further transfers. I was quoted over £2000 at private hospital chain. They tend to use general anaesthetic. I ended up getting referred on the NHS and had it within 6 weeks with just taking regular pain relief beforehand and it was fine but I was referred with suspected polyps so not fertility as such.

Presume you have had immune testing etc? I would personally want to exhaust testing before transferring the last embryos. It may all seem costly but it could save in the long run.

I guess with the double transfer the question is are you happy to have twins?

Thank you for your answer, I think I will go ahead privately as I can’t be bothered to wait. Yours was quick! For me I know it will take ages, I was given an appointment on 3rd August (in 5 months!!!) by NHS just to talk about my recurrent miscarriages. From my immune I have slightly raised NK cells so will be on drips before transfer.Yes we would be over the moon with twins! But of course I worry about my recurrent miscarriages 😕 xxx

5 months would seem like an eternity. This was literally the week before lockdown so I got fortunate. Had to fund IVF privately but at least that saved me a few £s. Turned out the polyps seen on a saline scan weren't there I think it's a good investigation.Keeping my fingers crossed for you with your next transfer x

Thank you! ☺️

Are you definitely going ahead to move the blasts? I’m wondering if it might be worth having the tests privately but leaving them there and transferring there to save money? Or is it the fact they’re generally taking ages for you that’s pushing you to move them? I agree it’s a long time wait on the nhs. My hysteroscopy was requested then covid happened and then I had to come off and go back on the list. In the end it took 5 months to be honest for mine to happen. I just sucked it up and let my body recover a bit after miscarriage. But the prices I was seeing was over 2k for a private hysteroscopy (more like 4K I think!)

It doesn’t seem that expensive in my clinic then! I will push to the hysteroscopy on NHS until I can. The reason for moving them to the clinic is that if I don’t do it they I can’t do immunes with them as is it not allowed to offer it to me if I do the transfer elsewhere. I could only do immunes with them after a BFP but it doesn’t make sense as it would be too late (it’s what I’ve done with my previous)

I think that price sounds about right - it was £1,100 at my clinic for a diagnostic hysteroscopy but the price increased if it turned into an operative one. So if everything was fine it was £1,100 but then I think it was closer to £2k if they then needed to remove polyps or anything else at the time.

The £1.1k included general anaesthetic and a biopsy to check for infections etc. Not a full EMMA/ALICE but I think it checks for endometriosis. I hope that helps!

I'd definitely recommend a hysteroscopy. It will hopefully give you lots of reassurance that everything is looking as it should or maybe spot any unknown issues 🤞 xx

Oh ok, thanks! Yes I will ask what the price includes and I definitely want to do it, I have to at some point and I had 3 miscarriages now so it’s worth it! Xxx

Wait sorry it wasn't a general anaesthetic! But I was definitely knocked out like during egg collection. I think that's why I got confused as I was not awake during it haha.

Good luck! It's definitely worth it

Yes I think in mine they don’t offer general anaesthetic but just sedation!

Oh and I'm not sure about the double! Maybe ask why they want to do that? You're still young and you're getting implantation 🤔 So I'm not sure what they are trying to resolve with that approach! But I'm sure they have their reasons for suggesting it. Xx

I asked and apparently the 6BC alone would not have much chance and is not worth it because if the costs of treatment/transfer. I told them I want to transfer both as single or double before having a new fresh cycle! Does it make sense?

Yes that makes complete sense ☺️! And I'd also be the same as you and want to transfer both before doing another fresh.

Have you asked about cancellation appointments? I have had 2 hysteroscopies in last year or so. Both with just some pills for pain relief. One they removed a 'polyp' type tissue. One I just called up and they had a cancellation the next day which was pretty lucky!

I have an appointment with the NHS doctor next week and I will ask to book me in, perhaps I get lucky too! Thank you x

Hi hun, all sounds sensible advice to me - hysteroscopy price isn’t too bad either! I saw many more expensive quotes online… to be honest the 6BC embryo is not greatest quality so good advice to transfer both! Xx

Hi, I’m reading 5BB is not great either, but I could not move onto another fresh cycle and leave these 2 behind, I want them both to have a chance! Hopefully at least one of them is meant to be. How is your little one? xx

5BB is totally viable! I got pregnant with a 3BB (then miscarried but was chromosome issue age related). Xx

Panicking the 6BC might stop the 5BB from implantating? Not sure where I got this idea but I don’t want to leave it behind and start a new cycle 😟 I would always wonder “what if”

No way! Embryos send signals to the lining separately…and when the lining codifies their signal it lets them implant (that’s how the dr explained it to me). So they are two separate entities, don’t worry about that! X

Ok thanks for reassuring me! Then it’s worth to give it a go, since I will pay a lot of money anyway for intralipids etc 🤦🏻‍♀️

It’s always worth giving it a go! My precious daughter was a cavitating morula on day 5, doctors told me I could choose not to transfer if I wanted (because otherwise it would have counted a failed attempt against the 3 in my package)….I was about not to transfer but I did it in the end….this says something isn’t it xx

Yes that’s just amazing! I have to say they also said to me I can just do another fresh cycle! As if these 2 don’t matter to me and I can just leave them in the freezer 🤷🏻‍♀️ When they froze my embryos they told me (about the 6BC): We thought it would still be worth freezing it. And since then I have so much faith in this one!
