Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help, I had a scan yesterday at 5 weeks 3 day that I have attached. My question is. Is this normal at this stage? the guy doing my ultrasound didn't seem to confident and was like I'm not to sure if that's a yolk sac so come back in a week.. And he's left me feeling sick thinking bad thoughts.. And also why does my gestational sac look strange whys it not circle I read about that and it seems to point out miscarriage? Xxx

Didn’t want to read and run as you’re obviously worried so I just wanted to say it’s super super early for a scan so I really don’t think you’re going to be able to see anything definitive. The private scan place near me won’t even scan you before 6 weeks. I know it’s a really hard waiting but the reason most IVF clinics wait until 7 weeks is because they can give you a definitive answer that there is a growing baby and a heartbeat.
Sending you a big hug. Do you have a viability scan with your clinic booked? Try and hold off until then if you can xxx
Hi lovely, completely agree with KiboXX - it's super early to see anything really clearly.
I had my viability scan at 6.5 weeks and it was still quite early.
Sometimes the sonographers don't seem to realise how easily their words can induce panic in us.
Sending lots of love xx
Agree with the people above. It is very early. My IVF clinic doesn't do scans before 6w2d and suggest having it at at least 6w6d (as we did) in order to get a definitive answer and avoid stress, and the private clinic I am using now for my reassurance scan(s) is asking to be at least 6 weeks pregnant and have had a positive pregnancy test no less than 16 days before.
You need to be patient and wait until the next scan. Not seeing a yolk sac before the 6w+some days marks is quite common (or so they told me when I had a scan at the EPU following bleeding at 5w6d).
Sending love xxx
Thank you for your reply that's put my mind at ease a little bit..I supose I will have to try stay calm until next week xxc
It is incredibly hard to stay calm. I feel you. We had two scans with our IVF clinic (6w+6d & 8w+6d) but I am so stressed that I have booked a further private scan for tomorrow (10w+4d) because I cannot wait for the NHS one at 12w+3d!!!
Keeping you in my thoughts, let us know how it goes next week 🤞🤞🤞
I don't think anything will stop you worrying at this point and I have no advice, but that seems way early for a scan, mine won't even do then until over 6 weeks (theyve scanned me at 7 weeks and will do 7 weeks again this time) because of what they might not see xxx
Hi it is super early so please try not to worry to much ❤️ My viability scan wasn’t until 7+3 days, where they could give me a definite answer if all was progressing like it should be, the reason my clinic won’t scan early is because they can’t give you a definite answer on how well the pregnancy is looking and can cause more stress xxx
I had a scan at 5 +5 due to bleeding and that’s about all we saw too. The following week we saw a fetal pole and heartbeat (well they did I couldn’t really see anything if I’m honest) and pretty much still looked like this. Then at 8 +5 weeks we saw a bit more and even I could see the heartbeat when they turned something on to highlight the blood flow. I think it’s really early and our scans were by the head consultant at the IVF clinic and she couldn’t really tell us much more at 5 +5 weeks than you have had from the person scanning you, she was mainly looking for the cause of bleeding at that point rather than able to confirm anything about the baby. Also the shape looks different depending on the camera angle for the sac so I wouldn’t read to much into that. I guess the positive is it’s not eptopic? And hopefully you will see more at your next scan 🤗 xx
Hi Chloe, the pregnancy sac is at the top of the uterus which is good and there looks to be something within the sac so that is all positive news for the time of your scan. I also want to say all of the sonographers, we have come across have been lovely and super sensitive to our circumstances I’m sorry you have not had this experience. Good luck for the next scan.x
I feel you. It’s too early. My first scan was also at 5 weeks and we only saw the gestational sac and a little dot. I went back in 10 days and was able to see everything! Stay calm.
