Anyone changed from long protocol (icsi/imsi) to short and got success?

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has any advice to share on changing from a long protocol (have one child from a long cycle) to a short? We have changed clinics and had a few failed cycles now, since having our amazing little boy 5 years ago and it has been suggested to me by our new (ish) consultant to try a short protocol. I am just wondering if anyone else has changed protocol's and its made a big difference? Our consultant is keen for us to change to get our number of mature eggs higher (we do take a big dip from eggs collected to maturing eggs) but I am sceptical, as I have always had long protocol's, so wary of change, as we were lucky enough to fall pregnant with our amazing little boy on a long a few years back.

Any advice I would really appreciate. Thanks in advance xxx

I changed from long to short and didn’t see a huge difference, but I’m now pregnant after a short protocol!

Long protocol; 11 follicles, 7 eggs collected, 7 fertilised and 6 survived to blastocysts. Three transfers with four eggs, one ending in CP.

Short protocol; 5/6 follicles, 9 eggs collected, 8 mature, 7 survived to blastocysts. Fourth transfer BFP.

Not sure BFP is due to the protocol but hopefully above helps. For me, I just wanted to try something different and the consultant who I am now with wanted to try a short protocol to collect as many eggs as possible (I have low AMH for someone of my age so know I’ll never get loads, but it’s the quality that counts and she felt I’d better better mature eggs with short protocol).

Xx

Oh wow! Congratulations! That’s amazing and so good to hear. Yeah I think I want to try something different too, I’m just scared as money is running low and knowing we have fallen on a long cycle before makes me think why change, but change is sometimes a good thing and as I said, if we can get more mature eggs, that would be amazing too 🤞🏻

It’s really interesting to see in your results that with your short protocol you had 5/6 follicles but still managed to get more eggs than the long cycle with 11 follicles. That fills me with confidence. That’s also what my consultant said about wanting more mature eggs.

Thanks so much for the info and wishing you all the best in your pregnancy xx

Thanks Diane, that’s interesting to hear. It’s never been suggested to me before, which is why I’m nervous and unsure I guess. This is my 12 th cycle too, so not just the first. 1 gorgeous baby boy and one pregnancy sadly didn’t end well x

I did three rounds of long protocol. No success and embryos always struggled to get to day 5, never had anything to freeze. Changed clinics and was changed to short, we got three day 5 embryos, first is my 9 month old daughter and the other two are in the freezer 🥰

I feel like short had a massive impact on egg quality for us xxx

Hi KiboXX,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay! Wow, that’s so good to hear. I think I’m going to give the short a go… did you take any vitamins etc, do Accupunture? So pleased for you xxx

Hiya

On long we had 15 eggs and 6 blasts (3 left in freezer)

On short we had 9 eggs and 2 blasts but both better quality (1 left on freezer)

I remember feeling nervous too but think it's good to try something different

All the best for you xx
