Covid vaccine - how can I ask for a Pfizer / Moderna one?

Hi lovely people, I'm 42 and from today I'm able to book my covid vaccine!

However, I recently read on the government website that women that are pregnant, breastfeeding, or of childbearing age, should ask for a Pfizer / Moderna one, as the safety data we have is based on the vaccines administered to pregnant women in the US, who have been given one of those two. The government website recommends to get in touch with the GP or with the maternity unit.

Now, I'm not pregnant, even though a couple of months ago I had a CP, and we're actively trying. So I got in touch with my GP, and the secretary told me to get in touch with 119, who then told me to get in touch with the GP again, and the secretary started reading from the government page that I should not avoid getting a vaccine (??? I never questioned that???)

Very frustrating... I booked in a vaccine, but the centre I booked in say on their website they administer only the AstraZeneca one.

So, am I at a dead end? I definitely want a vaccine, but I definitely won't stop trying for a baby. What should I do?

Also, I have Hashimoto's disease, which in other countries (Italy) is a risk factor for getting the AstraZeneca one, and they recommend Pfizer or Moderna.

Any suggestion on how to proceed?

My understanding is that GP surgeries are only going to facilitate you getting the Pfizer/Moderna if you are actually pregnant, as there is no advantage to avoiding the AZ if you are not. xx

Due to the 2 reasons, you’ve stated above, why not try making an actual appointment with your GP to ask for a way forward? I don’t think you will get the answers from the secretary.

Can I ask where you found information about Hashimoto and the vaccine recommendations?

Hi Kari, apologies, I double checked and there is no recommendation for a vaccine over another in Italy, just that it's a risk factor. In my region in Italy people can even book which vaccine they get, if they have the option. If you speak Italian I can post the link to the preexisting conditions that make a risk factor.

Thank you. Yes, if you could post the link that would be great. X

Hi Kari, it's at salutelazio.it/documents/10... the Lazio region vaccination has started for the age bracket 50-59 who have these pre-existing conditions. These are not defined as "high risk", indeed people with high risk have been vaccinated already.

I read the HFEA guidelines that said this too. I booked my vaccine at a clinic that I knew had the Pfizer vaccine as it’s close to a hospital and other people that have gone there have been given Pfizer. Can you work it out from work colleagues and family who have had theirs????
