Private IVF: how much did you/have you spent?

Hi,

Not sure if this is a taboo question or not, feel free to remove if so but I’m trying to get an idea of how much we should budget in the future incase we pursue private IVF treatment.

If you have undertaken private IVF, how much has it cost you? I’m looking for an idea of how much the appointments (including initial consultations), treatment and medication has cost for 1-3 cycles. Most clinics seem to do packages with “no hidden costs” but I don’t think medication is included in that so I am not sure how much it may actually cost.

Thank you so much in advance. I appreciate it is a personal question so of course only answer if you are comfortable!

BFN at 11dpo this morning, BBT chart tricked me to hope... I still need to arrange my HyCoSy! Sending love and hugs to everyone out there struggling x

I’m doing a multi cycle program at £6800. It covers two fresh plus as many frozen as I have. For my first fresh go the drugs I’ve just bought from Asda where £1000. Would have been £1900 at my clinic, so definitely shop about.

It’s probably about £5-£6k for a fresh round with drugs included if you didn’t use any packages.

We're pretty much the same costs here. We weighed up which package to go for (we went for a 2 cycle) against our age, health and initial assessment outcomes. We also considered how much over spending on packages would sting if it worked first time. Luckily for us it worked out so we've overspent about 1.5k (if would have cost less if we just paid the clinic for one cycle) but still have 4 embryos in the freezer.Buying a package reassured us and took away stress so worth it for us.

I was told by my clinic IVF meds per round could cost 1,200 to 4,000, but that was clinic price, it is definitely cheaper to buy them elsewhere such as ASDA or Stork. Our clinic does a 3 fresh-round package for 10,000 that includes all drugs up to pregnancy (those are extra but I got mine during 2ww just in case and it came to 300 so not too much) and excludes the pre-tx assessment and blood tests, which came to about 450. The single round was 3,200 without drugs so made more sense to do the 3 rounds.

If you are at all able, I would suggest planning for 2-3 rounds because it takes on average 3 rounds to achieve pregnancy. That of course depends on whether you have had NHS rounds - there is zero funding in my area so I had to go straight for the private option. The advantage of planning for multiple rounds is you then have extra money if you do get pregnant on the first go to spend on your baby. I think for most places if you do multi-round packages they will offer some form of refund if you get pregnant on the first/second go, so that is something to find out about as well. xx

Hey, we went private and originally estimated it to be around £5,000.00-£6,000.00; however little did we know that there were some complications that meant we had to go for a frozen embryo transfer (instead of a fresh one); which meant another £995.00 for the meds and £1,000.00 for the transfer.. once you find your clinic, do check with them what could be the max £ outcome including frozen transfer etc. So in total we paid little bit short of £8k

We had one free NHS round which was unsuccessful and then paid for a multi cycle with access which I think was around £6800k.. we got our drugs from Asda which worked out around £900. We’ve set a budget of £40k for future rounds and I really hope it doesn’t take that many.. xx

£35k to get our twins which are 2 weeks old now

That covered 5 cycles, 4 transfers (with 2 more blastocysts frozen) and PGS testing on one cycle. Also Included medication when I conceived naturally inbetween IVF cycles to try and prevent miscarriage (didn’t work)

(Originally our budget was £25k or 3 cycles! 🤣🤣)

£25k financed by remortgaging (extra cost on mortgage was £100 per month over 25 years)

£13.5k financed by 5 year bank loan at £275 per month

We’ve had one round privately (currently in 2ww) and that was £3,495 plus about £800 for drugs. I did have about £500 worth of drugs leftover from a failed NHS cycle so would have been £1,300 on drugs otherwise.

We’ve vaguely budgeted for up to five cycles (so about £25k) but after that no more. We don’t really want to get in debt though I understand why some people do.

wow mine cost a fortune in comparison!😱London clinic ( supposed to be one of the best) 2020

1 cycle of egg stimulation and retrieval : 2500, drugs 2000 + blood tests+ hycosy and sperm fragmentation 1400+ icsi 2000 + assisted hatching 500+ pgs 2800

=appx £12, 000🤯🤯🤯

FET cycle - egg transfer of one of the pgs embryo:£2,500 +mock transfer 300 +drugs 800 + drugs post week 7 :£500 + 2 scans at 7weeks and 9weeks 400= £4, 500 just for one frozen embryo transfer!🤯😱

So grand total for my little one ( I'm 14weeks pregnant) :

( I've got 2 more frozen embryo in the freezer)

Not sure yours is all that bad. You had a lot of extra things I didn’t have for my cycle like the hycosy, sperm fragmentation, ICSI, assisted hatching and PGS. I just got fairly bog standard IVF.

I used a private London clinic as my NHS referral never happened (2 years later we are still waiting for the call). I paid about £4500 for one cycle which included a fresh transfer. We couldn’t afford anything more. However that doesn’t take into account medication (£1100), pre-IVF testing (about £800 as we had to have a HyCoSy done, along with bloods), embryo freezing (I was over stimulated so could not do a fresh transfer) and then meds for FET (about £1100 so far because I stupidly ordered my Clexane shots through the clinic). So all in all about £9k (I think the embryo freezing and associated costs was about 1k). That amount of 9k includes the scans I had to pay for when I had my transfers cancelled because of a thin lining. I could not afford PGS testing so I didn’t do it. As all the other ladies said - buy your meds at ASDA. They do IVF drugs at cost and I saved a lot by buying them there. Just ensure your budget has contingencies because no matter how much you plan, there’s a hidden cost you had not factored in. Good luck!

We're using Access Fertility* £11k for two rounds of ICSI with unlimited transfers. It's the top end of their costs and no refund for me (I'm 42) but if you're younger it's a) cheaper and b) they do partial refunds if you don't get pregnant.* Drugs are extra - with Stork: For cycle one & fresh transfer were £1k (I assume it'll be the same for the second round) and frozen transfer drugs are apparently £350-500

For me, if two full cycles don't work, that's us done - We'll just be the fabulous Auntie & Uncle who buy too many presents and go on amazing holidays.
