5 frozen embryos

Hi everyone!! Just after some advice, I had my first round of IVF at the end of last year but got a BFN :(

I have a consultant appt on the 6th Jan to discuss future options. Mine is via NHS so they can usually only implant 1 embryo at a time or 2 at a push depending on quality.

Does anyone know if I have 5 embryos left, will this mean I only get one more go, or will they defrost one embryo at a time to check the quality and go from there, which may mean I get more than one more try?

Thank you

Sarah

Sorry to hear your first attempt was unsuccessful, great that you still have 5 frozen embies. The number of attempts on the NHS depends on your area so difficult to answer on your entitlement. My understanding from my NHS rounds were, they will use any frozen embryos rather than redo a fresh egg collection. Using the highest grade embryo, each FET would count as an attempt.

Yeah they have said to be that the rest of my 5 embryos class as my first cycle so they will all be used until they have gone and can be used under NHS. I just didn’t know how they un freeze the embryos :( whether there is the option I may get more than one go out of the 5 left etc xx

Hi, so usually in consent form that you sign before starting the cycle, you will give permission to thaw how many embryos, for example I remember in my form I gave permission to thaw two embryos to achieve one for transfer, but obviously they will not waste your embryos, when is closer to the transfer, you can ask an embryologist to call you. Also depending on your age, condition and embryos quality you can transfer more that one. You have to discuss these with your clinic. Best of luck xx

5 frozen ones is a good number! They can thaw them one by one usually. Hope the next one sticks 🤞

Out of curiousity were your embryos frozen on day 3 or at blastocyst as that can have an impact on their chances of making a BFP.

I assume day 5 as I had a day 5 transfer before

Oh that's excellent as would have a much better chance than day 3 embies. I got 6 blastocysts (day 5 embies) over 3 cycles and have put one back so far which also resulted in a BFN however, our doctor seems to feel we have a pretty decent chance at getting a BFP with the 5 remaining. Hope that might be some consolation to you x

Hi I’m nhs too and have 5 left. One cycle is when you have used every frozen embryo. So potentially you have 5 more attemptsLeft on this cycle. Sometimes there are issues with defrosting embryos but they will do one at a time. They will only put one in.
