Will clinic bin 'mosaic' PGS embryos?

Currently waiting on the results of 9 embryos being PGS tested in a clinic in Brno, Czech Republic. Due end of month.

Does anybody who has has PGS there know if they discard Mosaic findings as well as Aneuploid? (Mosaic is where they are partially normal chromosomes that can sometimes rectify themselves after transfer and produce healthy baby, Aneuploid is abnormal chromosomes that are extremely unlikely to develop and so are discarded)

I have emailed the clinic a few hours ago and await a reply. I wish I had read up more about PGS beforehand so I might have thought to ask earlier. Posting here hoping for quicker answer as suddenly visualizing my healthy embryos being discarded.

Slightly regretting the PGS testing at all but after 2 MC's and one recent top grade blasto that failed to implant I couldn't contemplate having up to 9 embryo transfers and the likelihood of 9 more fails or worse 9 MC's. PGS seemed like an obvious option.

Thanks supporters

It could depend on the clinic, but they definitely shouldn't just automatically discard them. Hopefully they get back to you asap so you can be reassured xx

I have had treatment at a Brno clinic too. I didn't do PGS testing but, if it's the same clinic, they will only transfer 'top grade' (they use grade 1 or 2) embryos.

I definitely think it's worth pushing for though depending on your numbers. X

Hi Florencehill,

Normally they don’t discard mosaic embryos and they will discuss any you have with you before you decide what to do with them. It’s amazing you had 9 to test though! I know it’s a scary process but it’ll be worth it in the end ☺️ xxx

Wow! 9 blastocysts!

Mine doesn't discard them but does not transfer them either ( I suspect it's also something to do with wanting to keep their success rates higher)

I m waiting to hear back from my pgs tests and will def keep any mosaic.

There is a debate about pgs and aneuploid embryos. I've read some research with very small sample groups describing how many aneuploid embryos resulted in live births.

I still decided to do pgs as time is not on my side and I'd rather go for another back to back IVF whilst I still can and try to harvest as many embryos as possible this year.

Oops replied to myself there! See my thread for my reply x

Hi Lapinblanc88.

9 is a good number, but I could still end up with 0 for transfer. I read somewhere on here a woman whose clinic focussed on two good follicles and harvested 2 rather than a high number. I originally had 16 eggs removed which was a big shock (as my first round was only 4, different clinic)

I think the adage Quality Not Quantity rings true in IVF. Im glad you opted for PGS. I need an ally! When are your test results due? Mine are Aug 30th at latest. Horrible waiting game, not quite as bad as the TWW though!

True but it's a game number so statistically you're more likely to get one or two euploid with 9 embryos.

Yesterday we froze 4 blastocysts ( this is my 2nd cycle) I have endo

I'll hear back in 2/3 weeks, nerve racking ...

After reading many studies I've decided I want to keep the aneuploid embryos (not sure if my clinic can keep them)

I'm getting quite cynical with the whole fertility business.

If you think about it, pushing for pgs means that the success per embryo implanted should be higher. Which is good for their stats.

Also the fact that the technology has recently changed when they noticed that live birth stats were worse with pgs scares me a bit.

At the end of the day, we still dont know much about embryos and chromosomes

Because of my age and two failed implantations I decided to do pgs. I'm also petrified of having a late pregnancy miscarriage

I’m probably the person mentioned - the cycles where i got 14 follicles the blastocysts were average and the ones I PGS tested were abnormal/mosaic. Decided not to test anymore but changed my protocol to natural modified IVF - next egg collection focused on 2 follicles and am now 13 weeks with twins from those 2 follicles

Hi ivfgotadream (great username btw!)

Yes it must have been you. Great success story. Would you mind PMing with the details of your clinic please and whether you had a consultand to guide you? Your method was such a great strategy that really worked!

Yes we have to go with what we believe in. Fear of more misscarriages is what made me opt for pgs too, and because time is not on my side. My clinic does not keep aneuploid, which is odd when you think about it as so many aneuploid embryos must get transferred to women who dont opt for pgs. They must be pretty confident in their testing to discard the aneuploid embryos I'd like to think...

I only have 9 days till my results. Not sure I want to read that email...

I’m in the U.K. but I was allowed to transfer my low level mosaic. (Ended in BFN)

It really depends on the chromosomes affected and whether it is a low or high level Mosaic - also if there is more than one chromosome affected or if it’s just a segmental mosaic

Its such a complex thing to understand isn't it. And much debated over benefits. I learn something new every day on here! All those terms are new to me. Cheers

I’d recommend joining some Facebook sites for mosaic and abnormal embryos - I did and learned loads and there are a lot of knowledgeable members especially from America where PGS testing and Transferring mosaics/abnormals is much more common
