Beetroot juice/pomegranate juice?

Hi ladies

Has anyone tried drinking a small glass of beetroot juice or pomegranate juice during their ivf cycle?

I've read it can help with blood flow to the uterus and help with linings, (literally willing to try anything) also pomegranate juice is meant to be good for sperm health.

Just wondered what your thoughts are and when to take it, during stims or before? During 2ww? Zita west mentioned it too but she didnt say when. There are some posts on here but quite long ago. Thanks 💗 xx

I drank lots of beetroot juice in the run up to my last transfer. It was a FET so not sure about during stims but it’s really good for you so I can’t see that it would hurt at any stage x

Thanks for your reply. I'm sure it cant hurt either, is it nice? 🤔 x

Erm.. 😂 it’s ok. I made mine with spinach because my iron was really low so it was a bit ‘garden-ish’. Who knows if it did anything but I had a good lining though!

I had pomegranate juice every day one glass after my fresh transfers. I had biochemical pregnancy on both times but maybe it helped implanting, who knows 🤷‍♀️

I always have very cold hands and feet that was the reason for me trying it.

Sorry about your chemicals 😔

Yes I've always got cold hands and feet too! I think I will try. My mother in law bought be some pineapple socks for collection and transfer 😂 🍍

Really good news about Spain xx 🤞

Hey! I drank a small glass of pomegranate juice during stims and for a few days after transfer. Ive always had a lovely thick lining.

I am currently pregnant from my last round of IVF (a fresh transfer). Not sure if pomegranate juice made any difference, but i pretty much did all the old wives tales (salty chips, warm feet, pineapple core) and would do them again. If nothing else it helps give you peace of mind that you’re ‘doing something to help’ in an otherwise uncontrollable time xx

Thank you for your reply. Definitely going to try it. And congratulations lovely thats wonderful news. I swear my husband is seriously looking forward to when its salty chips time, hes been so good on a diet 😂 xx

I drank beetroot shots in the 2 weeks leading up to my first FET. We got a BFP, then I stopped drinking it it & no heartbeat at 7.5 week scan. Ive always wondered if I’d continued drinking it for a bit longer things would have been different 🤷‍♀️

The longer you take it the better, according to all the reading I did, so I would start now - and carry on for a few weeks after you get your BFP! If (when?) we do another round I’ll be drinking it again because at the very least it’s a portion of veg so it will do good!

Warning though - it’s revolting! Which is why I stopped as soon as I got the BFP! If it works though (and it can’t do any harm, right) then it’s worth it! Just have another drink ready to have immediately after to remove the taste! 😂

VERY best of luck for your next round hun.xxx

Thanks Jo, that's really good to know, will definitely be getting some. Only thing I was thinking as it's a fresh transfer, should I start on stims, as i dont want a thick lining when down regulating even though blood flow is still important? Xxx

My understanding is that beetroot juice increases the oxygen to the womb rather than thickening it (but I might be wrong).

However, I’ve been told that your lining can’t get too thick. Every round I’ve done, mines been really thick and I’ve asked if it’s a problem- ie will it keep getting thicker & thicker until it’s too thick? Two consultants have told me that it can’t get too thick - it will reach its max thickness and sort of just ‘stay there’ as thd hormones will stop you from bleeding. Both consultants said they’re never worried about thick linings, just thin, so I’d say go for it - start drinking those shots now! 😝 xx

I have just read Cinderella5 s post below though and I do have to agree - I also remember gagging whilst trying to get the shots down! 😂

Maybe do a beetroot shot with a pomegranate or raspberry tea chaser...?! 🤷‍♀️😂😏 xx

I did all this wives tale stuff, including drinking the juice, the first two rounds which failed. The last round I did none of it and just tried to be normal (other than not drinking, eating healthily etc) and it worked. If it makes you feel positive because you’re doing everything you can then go for it, but there’s very little evidence to suggest it actually makes much of a difference so I’d say don’t worry if it’s going to caused added stress/pressure to be perfect. Good luck! X

Completely agree with HPLondon . I got a bit obsessed with the “old wives tales” and never made any difference for us. Also there were some consultants talking on a podcast BigFatNegative. They said 0 evidence for either but as long as pomegranate juice isn’t drank too often (very high in sugar) it won’t do any harm xxxx

I tried this, didnt help my lining. It's actually not very nice to be honest. The pomegranate is lovely but beetroot is....well an acquired taste. I like eating pickled beetroot. Someone suggested making them together and it was better but was gagging 🤢 after a couple of wks so stopped. I personally feel drinking raspberry leaf tea (needs to be leaf not just flavoured) helped my lining and its actually quite nice!!xx

I drink a shot of pomegranate juice - undiluted leading up to FET and I’m not keen - makes me pull that face after having a shot on a night out 🤣

No idea if it makes a difference to my lining but the raspberry leaf tea as mentioned by Cinderella is lovely, I’m sure that does help and means I drink less normal tea too xx

I have 2 cups a day, occasionally3. I stop a day or so before transfer as it’s also used to bring on labour so just to be safe xxx

I tried pomegranate juice, it was a little to sweet for me but it was only one shot a day so manageable. I’m also a fan of the Raspberry Leaf Tea. It’s meant to be good for the lining and general uterine health. I even drink when I’m not in treatment now. But as CLD has said, make sure you stop drinking it around 3 day’s before transfer as it can cause contractions in the uterus (which you don’t want after transfer) xxx

Thank you for your reply lavender, will definitely get some raspberry leaf tea!! Xx

i drank pomegranate juice and had raspberry leaf tea before transfer and during my 2week wait after transfer. I must admit i did all the old wives tales from wearing warm socks during my transfer and every day after my 2week wait and ate pineapple core and warm foods such as soups, porridge, salmon and tons of vegetables threw out the 2week wait and no hot baths. I was fortunate enough to get my bfp and im currently 18weeks pregnant. We also got pgs testing to make sure we put in healthy embryos. Out of the 3 embryos we had after day 5 blastocyst 2 were perfect and 1 had abnormalities.

Thank you for your reply and many congratulations to you! This will be our 3rd go and I just feel if theres something out there that may just may give a 0.000001% chance of helping in anyway then why not! Theres nothing I can say i havent done this time, it's not stressing me out or worrying me i have to do everything perfectly, but the more I learn and the more I research the more I throw at each round and for the money we are paying this time why the hell not! Xx

I had loads of issues when i had to have blood tests (small veins and no blood coming out). A friend recommended beet root juice so i drank a glass the night before and morning of any day i had a blood test booked. Not only were my veins better, it was over and done with in seconds as blood flow was fab. Will definitely be looking in to drinking for lining! Totally agree with others though- it is gross. I usually have a glass of squash on standby for when i have downed the beetroot! Good luck 💓 xx
