I have PCOS and for my new round of IVF I was asked to take Metformin to reduce the risk of overstimulation. My fertility clinic sent a letter to my GP to put me on Metformin and get the bloodwork for it done beforehand. Now my GP said they will just do the (necessary) blood work if I pay for it privately. Is this common? I mean Metformin is explicitly mentioned in the NICE guidelines. Am I just unlucky with them or have you experienced the same? They also refuse to check my thyroid and Hb levels (that have been off in the past) once a year...

Metformin just private?
I don’t have pcos but my clinic in Spain prescribed metformin, my doctors agreed to dispensing them for me and I pay for them as a private prescription. I’d had all my bloods tested in Spain, it’s not something that my doctors would do, they have only ever some basic tests . Xx
Tigr i am not sure about the other tests but they will need to do a thyroid test on you if you show symptoms. I never had a collaborative gp but the thyroid was always checked when i asked for it. They wont act too much on it when its between the range but thats another question. I remember reading in the NICE guidelines that they cannot offer you a thyroid test if you have difficulty conceiving BUT to offer you when you show symptoms xxx
Is all a bit unclear...My clinic now sent me back to discuss with the GP because they think they really should do the liver test for the Metformin. I used to be on thyroid meds but they have taken me off them because I was just a bit off the normal range then.
Try that and maybe they can send a letter to your gp? Exact same thing happend in 2017 with me they said u dont have to take the 50mg and i stopped. Little i knew that normal range not necessarily means good range to conceive.. xx
