Semen analysis perplexion

Hi,

I'm wondering if any one has any experience personally or with their partner of fluctuations in semen analysis results. I made some changes such as no hot baths, eating regular nuts, men's fertility supplements. I have always exercised well, don't smoke or drink. I do drink coffee.

My initial result had a slightly low morphology but everything else was normal. My subsequent result following the above changes had a decrease in motility, the sperm count went up (it was already normal), the morphology hasn't been reported due to Covid 19.

I'm not quite sure what to make of it. Is it worth repeating again at some point?

We were about to start out IVF journey but it is on hold due to events much bigger than us.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My partner had about 6 samples analysed over about 2 years and his improved after taking selenium and zinc, had actually had a natural pregnancy in 2018 and hes got 2 kids from a precious relationship, but when it came to IVF sample day everything had decreased. I'm not sure what caused it, but it still worked. I think stress has a lot to do with it. Laptops on knees, how showers, tight underwear, alcohol, smoking, drugs etc. The selenium and zinc we felt were good tho. Good luck x

If you’ve had a cold or flu it can really affect the results. Takes 3 months to go back to normal x

Yep. I didn't even realise. My fertility specialist has never mentioned it as a factor either.

I think it fluctuates naturally also throughout the month, some tests are higher and some lower. Also depends on how long you have abstained, regular renewal (our endocrinologist told us “if you don’t use it, you lose it!” - make of that what you will!) and what other people’s have said about hot showers, laptops etc. I’ve heard Ubiquinol / CoQ10 / Vitamin D is also good along with zinc, selenium and mens vitamins. It might be worth stopping the caffeine if you drink a lot? Good luck

Thank you. I probably will do, even though there is no conclusive evidence of caffeine being an issue. I’d give an arm to be a father. 😅
