Paint fumes - have I lost the plot?!

My life is almost laughable.

I am in temporary accommodation before flying for my next cycle abroad. The landlord has just renovated and there is a smell of paint and varnish (woody smell).

I freaked out about the toxins and he put me up in a hotel for the night. It is slightly better now (I really can’t tell unless I come in from outside when it smells strongly of varnish).

I am wearing a mask to cover my mouth to sleep at night because I am so worried about any smells impacting my egg quality.

That, in addition to feeling guilty every time I drink a cold bottle of water from plastic (worrying about the toxins).

Have I totally lost plot?!

Don’t know whether to laugh or cry...😂😂

Should I move out of this temporary flat?! I really don’t want to... seeking reassurance please ❤️

Hi Anna, it sounds stressful! I’m not sure of any effect, but would try not to get too stressed. I ended up getting our floors refinished a couple of weeks before my last EC and had my best cycle ever. And I also did a trip to the US and thought that would have an impact with the red eye and time change. Not sure if it would’ve been better without the refinishing and varnish, and flying, but I was pleasantly surprised. Try not to stress and wishing you all the best with your cycle xx

This helps me so much - thank you ❤️🙏🏻 xx

Oh Anna, sounds like you haven't lost your sense of humour hang on to it! I'm sure as a one off you'll be fine! Try not to worry about the fumes. But in case your using a dust mask it isnt going to do anything, you would have to use a vapour mask if you wanted to avoid inhaling anything. But really I wouldn't worry. If you worked in a prop shop with chemicals every day I would be concerned! Also it's fair enough to consider plastic toxins but a new plastic bottle with cold water isn't going to leach - it's more likely with hot water in plastic or microwaving plastic or old plastic that kind of thing . Good luck ! Be easy on yourself! XX

Thanks so much - I really appreciate it 🙏🏻

I had been wearing one of those dust masks to bed...hilarious!

It’s actually wood varnish, rather than paint so much. Hope it will be ok :)

Thanks again x

Paint should be ok. Grab the tin, anything with styrenic compounds will have a warning about feotus development bit that's more with fibre glass roofs etc.

If you've not started treatment yet you will be fine x

Will be a day or two of opening windows and the smell will be gone. You have a very understanding landlord lol.

Where are you going for treatment? Country that is as we can't name clinics

Thanks so much!

It’s mainly wood varnish and I have no idea what the landlord used....😬

I will be having treatment in Denmark. Never been to Copenhagen before!

The main thing is you haven't started the treatment, you weren't the one actually applying the paint and varnish, and you weren't there while it was being done. In any case, it's been 24 hours, and the fumes should have dissipated enough.

Step away from "It starts with the egg" and take some deep breaths (without the mask). 😎

Try not to stress if you can, and hang in there. Very best wishes xx
