Pregnancy question

Folks I hope you don't mind me asking a pregnancy related question on here, iv near demented myself googling an i just want to hear other ladies opinions. Whooping cough vaccine? I have read online it can cause still born and it just has freaked me out! Il b 28 weeks tomorrow with twins an need to make decision soon. Consultant has said there are no risks but there clearly are, though I am due Nov which id imagine in winter baby more prone to getting the whooping cough. Please help clear my mind.

I'm very pro-vaccinations. If there was a serious risk, it would not be offered to all pregnant women. I have had it with both of my pregnancies. My son was born perfectly healthy and I'm due any day with the second, who has always shown a strong heartbeat at each check up.

The whooping cough vaccine protects yourself and your unborn baby for the first few weeks after birth. Since your baby is way too young and fragile to be vaccinched when born, this immunity is essential. Same with the flu jab.

Personally I'd go for it. It wouldn't be offered routinely on the NHS to pregnant ladies! Hope you have a great last trimester!

Thank u, I am pro them aswell esp when they are born, its just even a slight risk of still born just worries me for what we have been through to get us here.

Totally understand. Not sure if it's the case for you, but my first was an ivf pregnancy after years of ttc naturally. I was scared constantly throughout, bit I suppose I have a lot of faith in the nhs and I just thought, they wouldn't offer it if there was a big risk. Of course there is risk with loads of things, but it's probably really tiny.

Unless you’ve read it online in a respected medical journal I’d probably assume that there’s a chance the information might not be accurate.

You’re right, there are potential ‘risks’ with every medication that we take but the NHS bases it’s recommendations on the very best quality clinical evidence available and as Kempton says, wouldn’t offer this if there was any significant risk.

Whooping cough is a very serious illness which can be life-threatening for babies. I actually caught it myself when I was about 3 and feel very fortunate that I recovered well so I made sure I protected my baby by having the vaccines.

I totally understand your worry though. I was exactly the same during my (IVF) pregnancy. Not long to go for you now xx

I agree completely with kempton. If it wasn’t safe they wouldn’t offer them. I had the flu vaccine as it’s not safe to get flu pregnant & I work at a school so plenty around!!! I was booked to have the whopping cough but was unwell so didn’t. Your call you must do what you feel is best. I had awful anxiety throughout my whole pregnancy even panicked in labour & I didn’t relax until our little girl arrived safely. I had the whooping cough vaccine in pregnancy. I actually had whooping cough when I was little and it’s not something you want to take a risk on. If what you read is true then the odds are probably extremely rare. Your babies would probably be more at risk from whooping cough than still birth due to actually having the vaccine xx

With both my pregnancies (full term) was a while ago 14/12 yrs ago but didn’t have any vaccinations definitely wasn’t offered any at the time.

I have no advice from a medical perspective I can only say I had it when I was pregnant and delivered a perfectly healthy baby.

I personally believe there is always risks with immunisations, you have to be real about that as they are giving you a small amount of it to build your immunity.

Don't know anything about vaccines but just wanted to say i'm glad you and the twins are still doing well. Can't believe you are due so soon. Time has flown since we had those transfers. Makes me a little sad to think i could have been due soon too but my time will come. Nhs go coming in next few months so keeping everything crossed.xxx

Not sure but assuming/hoping as i didn't respond well last time maybe a different protocol and menopur instead of gonal f. Fingers crossed 🤞

Our initial appointment 10 months ago was with a youngish foreign girl. Can't remember her name and don't know if she will be with us going forward. Yes really hoping we have more success this time and please god even an egg or 2 to freeze to take the pressure off a little. I will definitely be having the whooping cough vaccine. A massive British study of 20,000 women published in the British Medical Journal has shown that there is no increased risk of stillbirth or any other problems in women who've had the vaccine, while there is serious risk of illness and death in babies whose mothers have not had the vaccine. There is sadly a lot of scaremongering out there on the internet taking advantage of people's fears... it can be tricky sometimes to sift through the info but to be safe be sure only to source respected medical journal findings xx

Thanks for all the replies, the site I read about still borns was another forum where numerous ladies were against it as they had still borns, majority were 2 and 3 days after receiving the vaccine. My babies will get vaccinated at 6 weeks old so this is just to protect them for their first 6 wks of life. I am going to speak to my gp an raise my concerns with her, ask for advice.
