Vision changes

The scariest thing just happened to me, my vision all of a sudden went really blurry and I had a kind of white spot in my eyes a bit like when you look at the sun. It lasted maybe 20mins to half an hour and really made me panic. NHS direct suggested A&E but it's Saturday night and it seems to be improving now. Any idea what on earth could be causing this?

It sounds like a migraine with aura? I’ve been getting these on and off for many years. My eyes go out of focus first, then full on blurry, followed by flashing lights for 30 mins. I think it can affect people’s eye site differently though! Xx

No pain though!! Is that normal for this type of migraine? x

I don’t get a bad headache after it, sometimes a really dull one if at all. I had one after transfer too. X

Thank you, perhaps that's what I'm experiencing. I've got to say it was very scary when it came on so suddenly!

No worries lovely, it can be alarming especially if you haven’t had one before. It’s just a matter of waiting it out. Hope you feel more reassured 😊 xx

I agree it sounds like a migraine aura. I’ve had it a few times without the headache. They seem to vary person to person but mine start out as a small blurry spot which expands into a circle until it disappears from the edge of my vision. In my first iui I had a migraine four days in a row on norethisterone. The dr wanted me to stop all meds but clinic thought it was unrelated so maybe stress? You should probably get it checked out though xx

Thank you, I'll be sure to phone the clinic on Monday to let them know x

Hi Kitcat,

I’ve had this before. Sounds like a migraine but check it out just to be sure and safe.

Best wishes !

Thank you, I will do. My vision still hasn't returned to normal. My good friend google suggests it could be a normal pregnancy symptom but I'll definitely get it checked out x

Sorry, just wanted to ask - are you taking steroids? The optician told me that they could be responsible for white flashes and change in pressure in my eyes. I’m under closer monitoring from opticians so it might be worth getting it checked out.

Hey Kitcat. I can add my experience to the others. I had my first visual migraine at age 36. No pain whatsoever but felt a bit beat up afterwards. It started as flashing light in my peripheral vision and progressed to blindness in my periphery. I thought I was having a stroke and was terrified. Over in an hour. It turns out my brother was having them too about the same time. It’s scary but there is no danger to them. They disappeared about two years later and have not returned.

I’ve been following your other post regarding your little bean. Just knocked on wood for you here in America.

Definitely go and chat to your dr if you can, just to get it checked out. Although it does sound like a migraine. They're terrifying when they first happen. I've had them for years, and they start exactly how you described it. The flashing lights are so horrible, and sometimes make me vom. I got them when I was on the pill when I was younger, so had to come off it. I also got them at early stages of pregnancy and sometimes just before my period. So mine are definitely hormone related. I am nervous about what drugs I may have to take when we start our DE IVF for this precise reason. eeeek. Hope you're feeling ok today though xx

Hey I had a couple of those, it sounds like visual migraines. I got them when they put me on the pill to control my cycle for stims. It was awful, I was so freaked out! Soon as I stopped the microgynon, touch wood I haven’t had them again! I spoke to mum and turns out she suffers from them

Too, so also could be a hereditary thing. Never had one until this year (age 36) turns out my mum was also older before she started getting them

Too. Try not to panic too much, although I know it’s scary xx

Ok so it's happening again now. Almost exactly the same time as yesterday. Is that indicative of a migraine?
