Right TSH test?

I had a TSH test done the other day at the gp which saved some money I guess however, the nurse wasn’t sure which type of TSH test I needed.

Are they all the same?

There was TSH for pregnancy and all sorts.

I hope I got the right test!xx

Hey 🙂

When my consultant told me to get a TSH test he was looking for the level of TSH to be under 2.25. The GP carried out TSH and free T4 (I think that’s quite standard although there are many more tests for thyroid).

Sounds like you will have got the right test 👍. Maybe just double check with the clinic what numbers they are looking for as when I called up about my test I was told it was normal but it was twice what the consultant recommended.

Thanks for your reply. I’ll obtain the results tomorrow, it’s just when they asked me which TSH are we doing today, I was baffled.

I just said ‘fertility’ they responded that there isn’t one clearly defined as a fertility TSH test so I went with the one they thought it might be.

Fingers crossed 🤞 x

THS exam is the same to everyone. The only thing that changes is the value you want in the patients. For pregnant women the values should be lower.

Thank you, I was concerned they’d be looking for different things in each test - I suppose they are but it’s the same test.

Thanks, I genuinely didn’t want to go through it again.

I’m supposed to start my FET in the next week or so and I didn’t want this scuppering it all. :) x

The best is to measure TSH and free T4 to have a comprehensive data but is THS alone is a good starting point.

I wish you all the best for the FET!

Test is the same for all but just make sure they don't palm you off as being normal without knowing the result....you want to be around 2 or under for conception.xx

Thank you, what is the impact of TSH on fertility?

You’d think I’d know all the answers as I’ve been tested for literally everything xx

It can cause irregular periods, stop ovulation. Increased risk of miscarriage. I've copied a link that has lots of info for you below that explains it all, hope it helps.xx
