I am starting my one and only cycle NHS funded next month and was just wondering if anyone knows how long your embryos are frozen for on the NHS

Think it was 2 years on the nhs 5 years ago but it may have changed now x

We then paid to freeze for longer x

Thought it would have been only a very short time hopefully its still that. Was stressing about getting the money together to freeze as its our only shot. Just gotta hope for a good amount of embryos then its possible to do some private attempts

Yes they have put the prices up to freeze at our clinic now, we were lucky and paid £500 for 3 years but it’s now £750 for a year. Hence why we are now using our Frosties as our time runs out in April. It’s a lot cheaper for a FET than a full cycle. Just can’t remember if it was 2 years nhs then 3 private or the other way round if that makes sense xx

That's great thank you. Just wanted an idea before hospital next week and asking then to avoid that gutted feeling if you get what I mean

Good luck, hope it all goes well. On the nhs we were allowed one go but if we got frozen embies and the first attempt was unsuccessful we would have been allowed a FET too but if we didn’t get any frozen embies we wouldn’t have had any more goes. I know this can vary depending on postcodes but hope you are successful xx

The NHS paid for a year for us, and we had ours last year. Have just paid our first storage charge for the next year! It sounds like the storage cost varies greatly as our is £350 per year. Wishing you the best of luck xxx

Mine are stored for a year on the NHS. Unsure how much it will cost afterwards with our clinic.

Mine are stored for 2 years NHS funded, seems to vary depending on the clinic which isn’t very fair!

Our clinic stores them for 2 years. I assumed it was the same for everyone! I just think it’s crazy that your postcode dictates so much about the ivf process! Should be the same for everyone xx

My clinic advised that they would only freeze them for a year. After that we would have to pay.

Our clinic is two years on nhs then you pay to extend it.

I have just recently had my 1 fresh cycle which unfortunately didn't work and we had 2 frozen from that cycle as well. we had a letter through from our clinic stating that ours will be frozen for up to 10 years on the nhs. this was all done before my 42nd birthday (I don't know if it will change now that I am 42) we are waiting on our next appointment to find out.

Have you filled in your mountain of paperwork cause it has a section to tick about frozen embryos.

hope this helps

Back in 2017 our documents said 1 year.

Lots of luck with any FET you have in the future. I found my FET so much easier than my fresh cycle. And it can import ve the quality of the embryo I've heard!

You can have up to 10 years 1st year free then u pay for every year you have them stored.

We had one year free from the nhs and then have to pay each year up until 10 years I think x

It completely depends on where you live and what funding your ccg offer. I get one fresh cycle and one year of storage, then we privately fund our FET cycles. Fertility fairness website has lots of information x
