This is my first post and first day starting the down regulation meds. Does anyone have any advice or tips they can offer?
I’m excited to be starting but it all seems so daunting. I go back to work next week (I’m a teacher) and wondering how I’m going to do a good job when all I will be thinking about is this as well as dealing with any side effects!
Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks x

Hey Luna, don't worry too much about the side effects of the meds. Some people don't get any at all. Important just to keep yourself in a good frame of mind about it all, and avoid stress where possible. Some good people on here, so ask if you have any questions. Good luck with your treatment 😘 xxx
Thanks for reply. Fingers crossed I’m one of those people 🤞🏻 I know it’s going to be difficult juggling work, the meds and all the appts but I need to make sure I put my first for a change 😀
Thank you and vice versa to you when it gets underway! 😀
I would not worry too much about side effects, you may not get any I had some but still worked up until follicle scan day, then collection was up and coming so I booked a week off. I found just keeping cool helped, so lots of layers you can remove and add when needed - if you get the hot flushes and lots of water. Welcome and wishing you all the best! xx
I’m a teacher too. My main advice would be that, whilst carrying on as normal, try to make sure you have enough sleep over the next few weeks. I found I was very tired during down-regulation. Also, be aware that scan dates can change and can be at short notice but remember that it’s your line manager’s job to cover your classes and don’t feel guilty about it being needed!
My advice would be just to take it one day at a time, one injection at a time. Everyone’s experience is different and the only side effect I had really was headaches. Try to relax as much as you can (easier said then done) and try not to put too much pressure on yourself. Good luck x
Thank you really appreciate you replying. Did my first injection last night and didn’t feel a thing!👍🏻 so feel a lot better about it now! And yes will definitely try and stay relaxed!😀
Just wanted to say hi & to wish you luck for your cycle!
Try to stay as stress free as possible - I downloaded an ivf mindfulness app and it’s done me the world of good to have 10 mins or so every morning of purely me time!
Sending you loads of love 💕 you’ve got this 💪🏼💪🏼 xxx
Ah thank you a really kind message!!😘 I downloaded that app yesterday as saw it somewhere on here! It was actually nice just to chill out and listen to what he’s got to say! 👍🏻
I hope everything goes well at your end. I have also gone through the IVF procedure 3 years ago. And sadly, it didn't work for me. But I can tell you some advice, and the how drugs can affect your body(not in a bad way). The side effects are mild. Firstly, you have to be prepared for the treatment emotionally rather than physically. Moreover, the fertility drugs can cause nausea, blurred vision, mild cramping, bloating, constipation and breast tenderness. I had hot flushes. I know these are mild. But you can consult with your doctor if any of the symptoms go severe. I would say being open and informed is important. I am now considering surrogacy. For that, I am getting prepared, researching and learning from reviews. I wish you luck, keep us updated
Thanks for your detailed reply. It’s always good to get advice from someone who has been through it. I’m on my 3rd day now of down regulating and have spent most of the day on the sofa asleep which is very unlike me.
I’m so sorry to hear IVF didn’t work for you, how heart breaking and emotionally draining for you. It’s lovely to hear you are thinking about going down the surrogacy route.😀 I hope it all works out for you xx
I know, how the meds affect you in terms of mood swings, sleepy and tried all the time.More like AF symptoms. But they go WORSE with these meds. I can totally understand. Hopefully, the coming days are going to be way better than these. Take lots of rest, stay hydrated and say no to stress!!
