So, my daughter and son in law have been discussing wether , if they have the option, do they put one or two back . What’s all your opinions on this and experiences xx
One embryo or two : So, my daughter and... - Fertility Network UK
One embryo or two
I think it’s dependent on quality and age. I had one top quality embryo transferred. I wanted two in case one didn’t work but both the doctor and my partner convinced me and am now nearly 10 weeks pregnant.
With my little girl I had two transferred as the quality was a lot lower and one stuck!
I’m sure her doctors will give her advice xxxx
We're wondering about the exact same thing and are tending towards 2. OH did so much research and the chances seem slightly higher with 2. That said we'd like to freeze one so that'll have an influence on our decision. Good luck with their try x
I went with the consultants advice she told us not to eat too hung up or the whole I want 1 it I want 2 I’m because things change right to last minute u maybe only have 1 or u may. Have 2 lower quality and they will give their expert advice so just go with the flo I say x
I’ve said to wait till they find out if they have any to freeze. On their first attempt they had a frosty but unfortunately it didn’t survive the thaw so that is a worry for them as this is their last attempt unless they get a frosty xx
Depends on her age and blast quality. I'm a transfer 2 believer, 3 friends all above 36 have transferred 2 and all pregnant with singleton, and all went into happy healthy babies. On friend under 36 transferred 2 and got twins.
I transferred 2 day 6 donor blasts on my last cycle and was pregnant with singleton,
Yes there are much higher risks to mum and babies if twins conceived, but transferring 2 ups chances by 15%, I will do the same again next cycle.
If your daughter does transfer 2 she has to accept there is a high chance of twins and would they both want that? We decided yes, as to us twins was far better than a life with non. Good luck with what ever she decides xx
We had that option avdcwevwebtvwuth two FETs but sadly one did not stick, however 5 months on we have the one that did. A beautiful girl. My wife was 39
I always put back two in every cycle.im 34 Years old. It worked 4th time with my last two frozen embryos and I'm currently 22 weeks pregnant with one baby. Good luck to them.
Hello, I'm just wondering did you have any reason for your infertility? I'm 35 and just about to embark on IVF after conceiving naturally first time, they've done all the test and I'm a good old classic 'unexplained'. I'm wondering if I'd put back one or two I'd both were of average quality.
My tubes are blocked and there is also make factor issues .we only got serious about seeking help in 2016 and immediately started with Ivf upon discovery of what our problem was.have you done egg collection yet? I ask because you are talking about two embryos.
Hello, no we haven't had egg collection yet but the doctor asked us when we were filling in forms what we would do, we said it would depend on quality.
I would say 2 if you can, from my understanding it can increase your chances depending on your age xx
She is 32 in July . This is her 4th and last cycle as funds really can’t stretch anymore. Got enough for a FET if needs be. If only we had a crystal ball 🔮 xxx
The clinic im under have said that they would only put in one egg because of the risk of multiple babies. But when I had my 1st cycle in November they put both eggs they had collected in as they couldn't decide which was the stronger egg after day 5. Unfortunately neither of the eggs took for me. Good luck to your daughter and son in law xxx
It's a hard decision as you say could do with a crystal ball ! I would say listen to the advice then go with what feels right at the time wishing you all the best whatever they decide x
My clinic only put 1 as a rule but when we got to day 5 transfer none of the 6 had reached day 5 quality so they advised we put 2 in to give us the best chance as they wouldn't be greezable quality either. Went for my 7 week scan last week & 2 implanted but only 1 continued to develop. We are so glad we put 2 in as who knows which one would took n we could of had failed. Obv sad to hear 1 didn't survive but in this process u jus hope n prey for 1 healthy embryo anything else is a bonus!!
it does depend on age and quality. if older they keener to do a double transfer. our first transfer was a 3 day tranfer and one embryo was an 8 cell and the other 5 cell I think so they decided to pop two back in on the day so we never had time to think. they said embryo better inside me than lab however more i read after I read that if the two embryos are of different quality then this can result in you losing both as your energies go to poorer one neglecting other to detriment of both. we then on our 5th transfer were given time to decide as we had 2 frozen 5 day embryos left. our consultant recommended two due to my age however we opted for one in the end and are now pregnant 11 weeks. we thought about it loads and after 4 transfers we just wanted one healthy baby..twin pregnancies are fraught with difficulties for mum and baby. my clinic said they are trying to reduce twin births and double transfers because of this. hfea used to only note a transfer as 1 transfer regardless of number of embryos transferred which encouraged certain clinics to do double transfers for their stats esp if woman's odds of success were low as it would only count as one loss in their stats..this thankfully is changing and stats will be counted as number transferred rather transfer number if that makes sense. your daughter and husband should take advice and weight up their options based on number, quality, age etc..good luck x
It's difficult isn't it. I'm starting the long slog of IVF next week. My clinic has said their results show there isn't any increased chance of conceiving if you put two back in, they either stick, or don't. I struggle to get my head around their figures but it was the partner of the clinic that said it. I don't know what we'll do, I'm 35 and experiencing second time infertility after falling pregnant naturally first time. I think we'll just have to see how my good our embryos turn out. Good luck in whatever she decides. X
Thankyou so much for your replies. It’s good to have all this knowledge and I will pass the info on to them xx
It’s such a tough decision and a very personal one. We have decided to go for one embryo. I am 37 with unexplained and this is our 2nd cycle. My husband was keen on two due to the slightly increased pregnancy rate which translates to a slightly increased birth rate but my researc showed it was only by about 7%. But for me, at this stage, the increased medical risks to me were a bit too much. I think if this cycle does not work then I would consider two in the future as it a huge process to go through (shout out to all the ladies who have gone through several cycles). Good luck to your daughter .
They only put 2 back for me due to my age as i am 40 to try amd increase my chances. Both were good quality embies. Usually ive heard if you are under 35 they will normally just put one back in as the risk of multiples is higher under the age of 35. X
My first ivf is oe I transferred 3 none took. Second transfer with donors egg at a different clinic doctors suggested that I transfer 3 again they just said this was their advice due to my age (39) and my donor’s age (36). I am now pregnant with twins. Although they did not give us a chance to decide since they told us about the 3 egg option when we were in the transfer room. They warned us that I could get twins but ofcourse did not say anything about any risks associated with twin pregnancy. So I would say sometimes if it is difficult to make decision listen to your doctor’s advice.
Hi ya my first round I was 34 and had 2 transferred a 6 cell and a 7 cell ( only 2 embryos i had) chemical pregnancy. 2nd round a year later I had 2 top quality 8 cells one with no fragmentation an the other only slight. I wanted 2 transferred but consultant advised to transfer one as both were such good quality... and to hope the other would make to freeze, we took the advise had one transferred, had another cp and the other embryo didn't make it to freeze. If it didn't make it to freeze it prob wouldn't have made it inside me either but I can't help wondering. For me I will b opting for 2 from now on. It all depends on her age and how many embryos she has.
I had two put back on my last cycle and am now 27 weeks pregnant with twins. I’d say if you’re having two put back you’ve really got to be prepared for the possibility of twins x
How old are you if you don’t mind asking? Seems age plays a big part in the clinics advice on number to transfer as well as quality x
I was 38 at the time of the embryo transfer and it wasn’t my first pregnancy. Our clinic told us that the fact it was my second pregnancy was more the reason they agreed to put two back. They also chose the best and the least developed of my 4 embryos and froze the 2nd and 3rd best....... they really try to avoid multiple births.
It depends on there age. 1st time round I had 1 pit back in and I had a chemical pregnancy 2nd time I had 2 put back in after fighting with my consultant because I was 1month too young to get 2 put back in. I now have a healthy baby boy. My sister in law had 2 put back in both times. 1st time was a fresh cycle and she had twin boys 2nd time was frozen cycle and she had 1 little boy. Hope this helps xx
I’m glad you asked this because right before I saw this post I was thinking the same when I have ivf do I want one or two. I’m going for two (when it comes to it) because I’d rather the chance of two than zero. My mums funding my ivf and she agrees xx
We had 2 put back on our 1st cycle got pregnant and then miscarried so on our last 3 cycles we had 1 put back but sadly all ended in miscarriage now we have 1 frozen left to try again, I think it’s best to have something left in reserve...when they’re gone they’re gone xxx
Probably the 2. With freezing for second go is less likely. IVF is a touch and go matter. 1 of my friends had bad Endo, tried IBF 4 times. Had unprotected sex, but at 43 yrs a big shock she was pregnant and managed a 5.5 mth pregnancy. She now has a boy. !
Decision was made for me both times - 2 were transfered. My age a big factor, first time, we only had 2 fertilise so they both went back in on a 3dt, second time, the best 2 went in on a 5dt
Apparently one is graded at 5bb so really good and the other surviving egg is not as good but not given a grade. They have decided to put both back in and the hospital agrees. Will update later as to what happens xx
So you are the lucky one to go for IVF. It is a great procedure. I have seen people recovering from the loss of infertility through it. You are concerned about the transfer of the embryos in the womb. It has to be decided by your doctor after screening your embryos. If they think that they are healthy enough only one can be used. In case there is not a healthy collection they might need multiple embryos.
She had 2 transferred on Thursday. Test date is Saturday. So nervous xx
My daughter is now nearly 12 weeks with a singleton xx
Congratulations ❤️
