Hi all,

was just wondering if anyone was on any anti depressants before starting ivf? I have been started on paroxetine for ptsd and anxiety but not sure if I'll be allowed to start ivf as they can cause heart defects. I'm waiting on my letter of a start date.

Thank you

Hiya, my GP wanted to prescribe me antidepressants last year but I wouldn’t take them as I knew I’d be having IVF again at some point. I would go to your GP and see what they advise and also discuss your medication at your consultation at the IVF clinic or contact them sooner regarding this if necessary xx

Thank you for your reply, unfortunately after trying several medications and therapies the antidepressants were the only thing to calm my anxiety and allow me to leave my bed, I don't think I will be getting my consultation until around July/August, my gp is aiming to get me off them however I'm concerned that the ivf will make my anxiety worse and I'll be back to square one mentally x

Aw I’m so sorry you’ve been having such a difficult time. Hoping that your GP can help you manage the situation without you having to experience any further anxiety. Perhaps as noodles says, there may be an alternative medication that might be safer for you to take. Very best of luck to you xx

There’s different antidepressants that you can go on for pregnancy I believe. I would speak to the dr and see which ones they suggest if you feel that you will still need them. X

My GP prescribed Fluoxetene which is deemed OK for pregnancy. There are some potential impacts on baby after birth but as your midwife/medical team would be aware of that and monitor baby. I was on it following our first BFN until after our 3rd and ceasing treatment.

I was told it was ok to continue diazepam through my pregnancy but not in the third tri. It isn't ideal but it seems possibly the lesser of two evils as it isn't something you have to use regularly and religiously.

Acupuncture is an amazing alternate if you haven't tried it. I was off meds literally the same day for two and a half years after acupuncture.

However, just want to add I don't know what a fertility clinic would think about the use of diazepam. I'm just going off my experience when pregnant
