Hi everyone! So today I’ve done my last scan and they said everything looks great so I’m doing my egg collection on Friday the 19th! So exited and so scared😢 I would appreciate any tips for before and after. They gonna put me in sedation so hopefuly I don’t feel anything. Has any one done hers recently? What was it like? I’m gonna have a heart attack don’t know why I’m like that right now but I’m as close to cancel everything 😢 I’m a ball of stress and I know it’s bad. Thanks for your time and good luck to all of you xxx

Doing my egg collection on Friday! plz help!
I was terrified and for me it was absolutely fine. I had what they called wakend sedation, however I was totally knocked out and didn’t feel a thing.
I would advice some time off work after if you can, I was very sore afterwards and I would have struggled at work with the pain. Plenty of rest after, drink plenty of water and regular paracetamols. Good luck 😘 xxx
Thanks for the reply Amanda86😘 I think I’m gonna have same sedation as you had as it’s not the general anaesthetic. I’m off till Tuesday so hope I feel better by then. Did you had difficulty for toilet as well? Thanks again xxxx
I didn’t have any difficulty with the toilet afterwards thankfully although I think it’s common.
I just had quite strong cramping which I think lasted about 5 days.
That’s good you have some days off, make sure to get plenty rest 🙂
Xxx
Please don’t worry , if you are getting sedated it is all over before you know it! And you will be sitting with a cuppa tea and biscuit! I was sedated and didn’t feel anything just had a realy deep sleep x good luck!
I really don’t think you will feel anything, it’s hard not to thing about but I just thought how good I would feel once I had done it as it was such a big milestone on the journey. I was quite bloated on the day and for a couple of days after and just rested on the sofa on the day of EC. X
I’ve had it twice and both times with sedation although I was aware I was in the room I can’t now really remember the procedure. I had slight pain the 2nd time because my ovary was ‘hiding’ so they gave me gas and air and then I felt nothing. Honestly try not to worry it’s over so quickly, I’d take a couple of days off after if you can and drink lots of water. Good luck xx
I had sedation, I was completely out of it. One moment she's telling me they are putting in the sedation the next I wake up in recovery. I was in pain for a few days afterwards so make sure you get plenty of rest. Good luck and try not to worry too much xxxx
This was something I also panicked about as I hadn’t ever been sedated before. However, it’s everything the other ladies have said! I wasn’t aware of what happened as I feel like I drifted off to sleep but unsure if I did or not! Before I knew it I was awake and asked if I wanted tea or toast and it was lovely lol as I hadn’t ate !! Again I had some cramping for a few days but had paracetamol and lots of water with a hot water bottle. You will be fine after a couple of days wondering why you panicked, honest!! Good luck and be brave as you have nearly done the hardest part or at least it was for me. 💕 xx
Thanks Squeak2! I know it’s sounds funny but I’m scared in case if I die under sedation🙈 Hope it goes well can’t wait to finish this journey it was too much for me xxx
All the ladies on here told me all of the above before I had my EC and check my profile on how much I was freaking out 😱 but it’s worth it to get the end result and I wish you loads of luck that you get a wee emby of your own 💕 that’s all our goals xx
Hi there, I second all of the above!
The most painful bit for me was when the nurse was trying to put the needle into the back of my hand for the sedation... it took three attempts and left my poor hand bruised!
The worst part is not knowing what to expect. Trust me, I’m a bit of a wimp and if I can do it, you’ll be fine! Xx
Hey Anna00,
I havent had egg collection yet so not able to offer my experience but wanted to wish you all the best. I hope the ladies on here have reassured you! You will be closely monitored in the hospital dont worry, they will look after you ❤ xx
I'm in for my 3rd egg collection too on Friday!!! Sedation is no problem at all - you're taken into surgery, cannula put in your hand, drugs injected, face mask on and the next thing you know - you're back in the ward/room getting ready for tea & toast!!!! Drink plenty of water & rest- you'll be fine!!! x
You will be absolutely fine. It’s just like a nice sleep. I’ve never remembered anything about procedures under sedation and I’ve had 2 ECs and 2 ETs under sedation. You might just feel a bit like you have bad period pains afterwards but hey, all women are strong enough to deal with them! You didn’t get this far to give up now!
Hi Anna, I know exactly how you are feeling. I was terrified before my first egg collection as I had no idea what to expect. I would definitely recommend you go with deep sedation for the procedure. You will be asleep and won’t be aware of anything. You might like to wear something loose and comfy to and from the clinic. Bring some sanitary pads as you might have a bit of spotting afterwards. You’ll not be able to drive home and will need some tlc for the rest of the day. You will feel sore afterwards so have some pain relief in the house. Keep drinking plenty of water. You might also need to book some time off work.
Just remember you will be in very safe hands with health professionals who have been doing this for years.
Wishing you the very best of luck and hope all goes well for you xx
What an amazing reply Dunla! Thank you so much. I’m on a sedation but don’t know if it’s deep or not hope it is. I’m scared of hospital and surgery room that’s the main thing 😔 I think what if I die under sedation, think I’m going to be crazy, then I think about the end holding my baby and feel it all well worth it. Defo something wrong with me at the moment. I’ll take all the things you told, thanks. I’m going with my husband so I’ll be fine.I'm off for 3 day so hopefully I get better by next Tuesday. They told me I’m having my embryo transfer 5 days after collection. Finger crossed🤞🏻. Wish you the best and good luck with everything. Thanks again 😘 xxx
It’s completely normal to feel frightened, I was too. Sedation is perfectly safe. I had light sedation with NHS treatment and there was a nurse whose job it was to monitor my heart rate and breathing throughout retrieval whilst doctor worked away. I was aware of what was happening but felt so spaced out I didn’t care! For private clinic it was deep sedation. There was an anethesist there to administer sedative and monitor me throughout. Both were safe and I managed to stay quite relaxed. I’ve had four in all and think of how many other women in this forum have been through it multiple times too. You can do it too. Keep visualising that little baby to help get you through.
Keep us posted about how you get on. Sending you a great big hug 🤗 x
Thanks Dunla😘 I’m under NHS treatment so probably it’s the same as you. It’s my first time maybe that’s why I’m more frightening. Hope it goes well. I’ll make myself busy today maybe it helps to think about it less. I’ll post how was it after I’ve done it🤞🏻. Best wishes and Good luck to you 😊xxx
Hi Anna00. Just down to fear of the unknown. You will be looked after, so try not to worry. Have a good rest afterwards and drink plenty of water. Will be thinking of you. Diane
No advice on the whole procedure as I haven't had IVF, but I wanted to wish all the best for today. I hope it goes very well 😘 xoxo
It is a scary thought but as people said def not as bad as it sounds. Def sore after and I had bad bloating. Will def need around 2-3days to recover. Look after you☺️
Thanks every one! I’ve done it and I’m still alive😊 xx
