We saw our little baby of screen, moving its little legs and heart beating away! He/She wasn't in the correct position and had its back it us and wasn't moving!
She decided to go internal to get a better a look, and that when we saw all these little things not quite right with our baby! It would appear to have a large kink in the spine, you could see it plain as day! Then we noticed that's it little tummy was on the outside! She couldn't get a proper measurement from the base of the neck for the downs but what she estimated that was high too!
I couldn't breathe, I just wanted the probe out and her out of the room! I didn't hear another word, she just kept saying sorry!
I just don't know what to think, what does this all mean?! We have been referred to another hospital for a Dr to check the ultrasound and next steps and luckily they can fit us in tomorrow afternoon!
I don't know how much of all this I can handle! I just want our little baby to be safe x
Oh my goodness taylor85! I am so sorry to hear this! How devastating for you. I hope tomorrow they can give you come clarity on what this means. Try not to stress too much. You'll know more soon. Big hugs xx
Awww so sorry to hear this. My friend had a baby with some of her internal digestive organs on the outside, she had a few large operations when first born and is a happy 2 year old now. Hoping you get more information tomorrow xxx
Oh goodness. I'm so sorry to u hear you have so much worry. I really hope that tomorrow everything seems better than you feel now, and that they can reassure you. It's heartbreaking that you have to go through this after everything you've been through to concieve. I am thinking of you, and will look out for ur positive news soon. Take care xxx
I'm so sorry. Try not to panic too much as they may tell you tomorrow that they are things that can be fixed after birth. My friends daughter was born with some organs externally and they operated and she is now completely fine. Sending hugs. X
I'm so sorry you've had bad news today! I can only imagine how distressed you are. Hopefully you will get more information when you see the Dr so you are better informed! Thinking of you!xx
Sending best wishes for tomorrow xx
Thank you all for lovely words! Great to hear some positive stories about little ones with some organs externally!
We are keeping positive until we hear otherwise! Now we've had chance to settle down and talk about things we both feel a little better! Xxx
I really wish you & your baby the best, i hope you can get some sleep & best of luck with your appointment tomorrow, X.
Like all the other ladies I'm sorry to read your words. We had a scare at 12 weeks for downs too, was the longest 10 days waiting for blood test results to come back. Hopefully your hospital will give you some extra care and support for you to find out more info asap. Remember baby is very tiny at this point and it can be hard for them to read the nuchal part dependent on how baby is lying, maybe the nurse got flustered too. Wishing you and baby lots of luck
Oh my goodness, I am so sorry to hear this, what worrying and scary news. Keeping everything crossed that the further scan shows that things are manageable and your little one will be ok. Thinking of you xxxxxx
We all be thinking of you today. Just remember, this process so far has shown just how strong you can be. You are strong enough for whatever this brings too xxx
Just to let you know we had a similar thing happen to us at our scan. Had to do lots of follow up scans over the next couple of days I think 8 in total as they were having problems with charlies spine and even with manipulation he wasn't moving or doing flips, his legs would move but couldn't access his spine because of it. They had me in for 3 days as they couldn't assess risk of downs either and I was 24 weeks before they could confirm he could actually move. He was born breech but fine and had to have untrasound on his hips and pelvis which looked normal. Can't vouch for the internal organs on the outside but when Charlie got meningitis soo after being born in the hospital there was a baby who did have that and they just gradually fed the intestines back in and sewed up the hole. That little boy was fine too after!
You've had a shock, and you've not been given proper facts, which is not ideal. But there are literally so many things They can do nowadays to help your munchkin.
I hope you get some Clarity and reassurance with your next scan ❤️🍀🙏❤️
The babies liver is fused to sac wall, so it hasn't developed properly and has a sever kink/twist in its spine! It could continue to grow and go full term but would only survive a few minutes at best so we've decided to end the pregnancy! Just waiting to hear back from a consultant for an appointment and go through the options available!
To say we are devastated is an understatement! My heart is broken!
I'm so, so sorry to read this. I've previously had bad news (serious heart defect meaning baby wouldn't go full term and if it did would survive only for a short time). Have you been given information about an org called ARC? They are fabulous on the phone if you need to talk and also have a forum for people who've lost a baby following a screening diagnosis if you need it: arc-uk.org
Sending love and strength at this truly awful time xx
