Hello, congratulations! This is very exciting! We have our first appointment at the clinic on 7th July & have been told we'll get our treatment plan etc a few days later from the nurses. I was just wondering, do you have to start on the first day of your period, or can you begin the treatment at any point in your cycle? I'm just starting to panic a bit as everything has moved quite quickly for us (which is amazing) but we are going away for 10 days at the beginning of September & I'm worried it will interfere with the cycle and the treatment will have to be pushed back. We booked it at the beginning of the year before we knew any dates etc & were still in the referral system, plus it's for a family wedding so we can't get out of it...! x
hi darlingbud at my first app I was told if i was having ivf then went for a follow up with the consultant and to be told which protocol im gonna be on I had my first app in april and start next week im going away in august and ive been told i may be doing my test around that time feeling abit worried being abroad on treatment but should be fine xx
HI ladies, good luck to all of you on your journeys
Can i just ask how long it takes to get to your stage from being told you defiantly need IVF? we find out july 9th if OH 2nd sperm sample is still low so will confirm we need it but just trying to work out how long we will have to wait to start? (we are in Somerset but just an idea would be great) xx
hi blondyboo I had my first appointment with the consultant in april where i was told about ivf , and OH had to do 2 sperm tests and then I had a follow up beg of june to advise what protocol im gonna be on and i start next week so was about a couple of months for me
all the best xx
Hi Blondyboo,
I first saw the gp in Nov last year as we'd been ttc for 2 years with no joy, he then did tests on both me & my husb which confirmed that my husb had low sperm count/motility etc. These tests took a couple of weeks. He told us my husband's results over the phone & said there and then that he'd be referring us on & thought we'd be good candidates for ICSI.
Our first appointment at the hospital with the fertility consultant's registrar was mid January, where she asked us a load of questions & then advised me I'd need a scan to double check my bits were all definitely in working order, and that my hsb needed to take Wellman tablets for a couple of months before a second sperm analysis.
I then had the Hycosy scan with the fertility consultant in April (which was fine) & husb had second sperm analysis (unchanged), we then received a letter through in May saying we were eligible for funding & for us to choose our clinic, so we sent all that off with our choice. And we've recently just got our start date through for early July, so all in all it's taken about 7.5 months from first GP visit to treatment start date. We are in Kent so I'm not sure if it's good or bad, but we've been pretty happy with the pace of it all to be honest. Good luck with everything! x
