What is the age cut off on the NHS for IVF treatment?

I am 41 , will be 42 in November and I have recently been to see a Gyn in Barnet Hospital. I had all my test results with me and he agreed to recommend me for IVF treatment . However when he made a few calls he realised that 39 is the cut off age . I have already done a round of IVF privately this year which failed and I was hoping to qualify for a round on the NHS. We have no children. I thought the age limit had increased to 42 , would, anyone be able to advise me please?

Hi fitzmsa. The NICE guidelines have recently recommended that women up to the age of 42yrs should be permitted a cycle of IVF on the NHS providing their hormone levels are satisfactory. Unfortunately though, this is just a recommendation and is entirely up to your local CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) to decide whether they will implement it or not.
