7 week scan - advice on what to expect

Hi ladies, I hope you are doing well.

I feel very fortunate to finally be able to post in this group and would appreciate your advice

I’m currently 6 weeks 3 days pregnant after a double embryo FET. My 7 week scan is on Friday and I’m not really sure what to expect.

Would you mind sharing your experiences about what they look for and how the scan goes?

I’ve been having intermittent pregnancy systems which are driving me crazy wondering if everything twinge is a good or bad thing.

I’ve never got to this stage before, so really grateful to still be in the game but terrified it will all go wrong again soon

Hope you are all having a good day

X

Hello Poppygarden! Congratulations on your pregnancy, what wonderful news! At your 7 week scan the sonographer will typically do a transvaginal scan just like throughout stims and want to check that your pregnancy is in the right location, i.e. your uterus. They will take some measurements of baby to confirm the gestational age and you should be able to see a heartbeat at seven weeks. They will also want to check whether both embryos took or whether it is only the one that implanted. I'd go prepared with a full bladder as sometimes they start with an abdominal scan (I've had both in the past), you can always go and empty your bladder if they advise a transvaginal scan will be more accurate at this early stage. Wishing you the best of luck! Try and enjoy the anticipation but I know how nerve-wrecking these early weeks are! X

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. It’s really helped settle my nerves. Hopefully after the scan I’ll be able to start enjoying being pregnant and start looking forward to October :)

DreamingOfTwo has really outlined it well - and congratulations! I'm 7+6 today so I'm just a bit ahead of you and an Oct due date!

I had my scan last week and we went straight to transvaginal as I've had some non-viable scans in other pregnancies and I didn't want any ambiguity, so I told her I was happy to just dive straight in there to give me faster answers!

Best of luck to you, I know it's a nervewracking time! xx

I remember feeling very nervous. I think it is ok to feel nervous and you might feel like that again for other scans. Maybe take the day off! Or at least don't have work after 💜

Thank you, I’ve taken Friday off work. If it’s bad news I won’t be well enough to work and if it’s good news I want to celebrate:)
